Default FAMOUS Insurance

Just a heads up. CAMS has signed a new National insurance agreement and is promoting the above insurance company. Home - Famous Insurance

They used to mainly do bike but now they've increased their market to specialist cars like ours.

I just spoke to the owners son Craig, and he had a lot of interesting things to say. Both he and his old man are Ex Shannons people. They do normal road insurance which is seemingly less expensive than Shannons on a comparable basis AND also do Trackday Insurance as well.

The TD insurance covers L2S or below CAMS sanctioned events. He is coming back to me with the definition of a CAMS sanctioned event for clarity.

For TD insurance for up to $10,000 cover = $570.00 p.a. with $750 excess for QLDers.

Even with a saving in regular premium the trackday insurance is interesting. Apparently Shannons whilst they would probably match the normal premiums, they have no plans to introduce a trackday cover policy.

I'm insured through Shannons but with many guys tracking their race and rego'd cars it may be interesting to see what they come back with.

I'm getting more info once Craig comes back to me and then I'll test the waters on pricing but from what I've heard it sounds like Shannon and Lumleys may get a run for the their money now. Craig from FAMOUS has also offered to come and talk about his company and its offerings at a club breakie if Wazza was interested?

Shannons also do track and race cover. I have it on my Formula Ford, and its not limited to L2S. It provides $20,000 cover with $1,000 excess and covers me in the State Championship, and those races that need an NC license. The race cover extension is $70 pa.

AVO, I just rang shannons about this and they said the only "race" cover they did was for classic cars that were between 30-50 years old!

I read them your post verbatim and they said they didn't do it and that they had no policy which covers race, drag, drift etc etc no matter what car class or license save and except for what I detailed above.

I was talking to a call centre person so perhaps they don't know their stuff but he definitely said no.

Insurance companies ey!

I worked in the Insurance Industry for most of my working life, and I never understood how some prices were determined. Car is over 30 years old, but don't understand the difference in risk when I'm racing in the State Formula Ford Championship. Total premium for car including race cover - and one free windscreen??? - is about $370. For my classic Lotus - about $350 pa.

Some of the other guys I race with in the State Championships have cover with Shannons as well.
