Milk crates..... no one has ever bought one.... but everyone's got one.

we calculated the aprox weight but it was more the sheer size of it that made it a bit daunting if i could have used a block and tackle i could have flipped it by myself , but it wont need to be flipped again thank god . i mount the axles on a angle iron frame and just wheel them into place and weld them up so that bits pretty easy i am just waiting on some more steel to make the frame work for the cladding .
as for milk crate yeah i know there must be millions of the things in sheds and workshops across Australia there one of the best tools even invented and dont come from snap on lol
cheers dean

hopefully having a good weekend getting stuck into it .

oh yeah got some cheap mags off gumtree 100 bucks for 5 and i just put some 8 ply light truck tyres on them so they should last a few yrs i hope ..

boxhead 08-27-2015 06:59 PM

Be careful with cheap cast alloy rims, they are not very good at weight bearing.

went down the workshop for a few hrs today and just finished of welding the main chassis it was just tacked until now . that lincon 180c the best mig welder ive ever owned it just keeps going
also made the frame for he side door and some brackets for the two winches will be going back tomorrow o finish painting the chassis .

excuse the pic quality due too poor lighting in the shed

Detroit Bill 09-05-2015 06:24 AM

Very nice

Sorry if I missed it but what will that weigh when it is done?
What will its capacity be?

leroy17 09-05-2015 06:33 AM

Good progress and nice to see the Old milk crate serving its purpose. Looks to be a solid trailer.

Are they fairy lights in the shed, or have the locals been line target practicing.

deano59 09-05-2015 06:50 AM

she is a old shed and had many sign's tek screwed to that wall but it does give off ance effect at night time .
and to Detroid bill im hoping it will come in around 1300 kg or less and im using 3 ton axles and springs and coupling . it will have electric brakes on all wheels and a break away system ,
cheers dean

deano59 09-20-2015 09:51 PM

not too much to report as all i have done is almost fully weld the frame as it was only tacked in place b4 and start construction on the rear drop down door/ramp.
i had friend turn up some bushes and pins to use as hinges for the ramp just slowly collecting more bits as i go .
had a bit of a saga with the axles the company that made my last lot is not doing the 4 inch drop only 2 inch and only use small wheel bearings .
after chasing up and pulling my hair out i found a bloke that makes the 4 inch drop on a 50 mm axles with the big bearings but im getting jabbed on price but not much i can do about it as i want to get it on wheels and cant be arsed waiting for people to get back to me but dont something thats a pet hate of mine anyway the next few weekends are been taken up with racing commitments and a fair bit of travelling so things will slow down for a bit plus the fact i have a hip replacement thats been in there 23 yrs and building this trailer has aggravated it with all the climbing up on step ladders so i suspect once this is finished i will be going in and get it replaced with a new one , cant complain was told if i get 10 to 15 yrs out of it that would be considered a good run so 23 yrs and i havent played nice with it im not complaining ..

cheers dean

Got an estimate of what it will weigh, Deano? The trailer I mean, not the hip.

Cheers,
Glen

albanycobra 09-22-2015 01:47 AM

Nice work Deano, keep the pics coming, I'm thinking of doing the same to my car trailer one day.......
