ZF 6 speed transmission
Assistance required please...
So my brother bought a FORD FPV GT bf 2007 series that had a faulty transmission. Typical milkshake from the Sh!tty external heat exchanger.
Long story short we've swapped the ZF 6 speed for another from a written off car of the same spec. Model 6hp26 which is in most FPVs.
However we can get it to work right, it keeps revving weirdly and won't hold steady idle. The engine is fine, engine electric are fine, but the transmission isn't playing nice.
Called ford and they said they need to send the transmission back to configure...? Has anyone heard of this? Can anyone suggest a pro in Melbourne SE suburbs preferably but not limited to.
Many thx

Same thing happened to my mates a Falcon. Ford told him the computer needs to be reconfigured. Take it to Herrods or APS they should be able to sort it out.

Yes a mate did the same with his turbo 6, it wont talk to gearbox that doesn't have the same code as the engine, so it needs to be reconfigured to match the engine computer, I think he took it to blue power racing, but not sure.
Could also be a matter of pulling the controller off your old gearbox and putting it on the replacement one.

Ford didn't make things as simple as chev with their LS.
The ford transmission computer won't recognize the new trans, or the engine each won't recognize the new trans computer.
You will need to have a tuner make them play together, they are matched from new and dont accept new components without being reconfigured.

Here's what happened to my mates Ford Falcon,
The stock trans cooler runs through a copper tube in the radiator to keep trans oil temperature down, when it fails the trans fluid goes into the radiator and the coolant goes into the trans pretty much destroying it.

There's a lot we will miss about them when the Falcon goes out of production, but there's some stuff - like this - that we won't!
