So I've just fab'd up some brackets/linkages/rose joints and converted my Jerico with Hurst competition shifter to this....

No chance of any mechanical over revs now.

PLUS see it in anger (though this is a 5spd prototype tested on a Jerico Dr5 Road Race dog box. They never made another as far as I know.

Remember it only works on an external shift linkaged box. Plus chuck the linkages they give you and make your own steel rods with rose jointed ends. The success of this box relies on there being no slack in the linkage set up at all.

Scotty H aka OzVenom has set one up on his bench of a toploader 4sp he has and its great. The shifters for the Jerico are a shorter throw and have the reverse lock out. I'm not sure if the toploaders do?

That 5 speed video really gives truth to the term "downshifting" with the shifter angled so far forward. Looks like he's pushing almost directly downwards!

I have seen something similar before but the throw on shifting was massive and not very appealing.

Lobelly the jerico is a shorter throw for sure. If oz venom was still on here he could do a vid of his on his bench mounted top loader but sadly he doesn't do the forum much these days. Bloody shame really.

Ive been running a renegate shifter on my toploader box in my XY ute for seven years now.

Gidday Tom, whats your feedback on it having used it for that long? I did some mods to mine and they must get the parts chrio treated or something as the metal is as hard as. I had to use tungsten carbide tips to drill into the stuff!

Actually ive had it fitted for 10 years now, 2005, had to extend the linkages and mounting bracket to make it fit up through the floor into the original console where the old H pattern shifter used to be, works fine, the only drawback for street use is you have to row down through the gears every time you get to traffic lights to select first gear, so you do a lot of gear changes.

Modena, my last pic is reference to my shifter now working showing some rubber to the road.

Yes as Tom suggests, his ute has a toploader and he removed his old H pattern shifter and re replaced it with a sequential shifter. In effect with some mods its a bolt on replacement.

Thats right, H pattern to a sequential, all with external linkages, once you hit a gear the lever springs back to straight upright, youve got a neutral gate but its before first gear so when you hit top gear you have to row back down through the gears to select neutral then reverse.

Tom, I took my wife out in the Daytona the other weekend to see if she got car sick. She has in my street cobras and we thought a GT40 would do the same. Anyway I gave the car some stretch around a few roundabouts and a blat up the motorway and when we got back to the garage..she turned and went I LIKE IT!!! and no feelings of sickness. The funny bit after we'd given it some curry was we cruised back through Noosa and came up to a set of lights. I'm sitting there and the lights turned green and I realised I was still in 4th! So even the big end of town Hollinger catches the unawares!

I cant wait to give them both a run at the track. Are you coming to the Nats this year?
