On the hunt for my 1st Cobra

Hi all,

I am on the hunt for my first cobra. So I thought I would put up post asking if anyone knows of any cobras for sale that aren't on the usual websites trovit, car sales and the like. I am in Victoria so something vic based would be ideal but I am happy to travel interstate for the right car. I am 6 foot tall so I need some room the the foot well. I am not afraid to do some work if need be. S please if you know of something PM me.

Thanks

Andrew

Welcome aboard Andrew.

It's the perfect time of the year to be looking for a Cobra -- well it is up here in Queensland where our winter sunshine lends itself to driving these cars.

You'll no doubt have heard that the Cobra Nationals are to be held in a couple of months' time up in Goulburn. It would be well worth your while to make the trip up where you'll be able to see a sizeable gathering of makes from all states. It's the ideal opportunity to compare what's on offer and what suits you personally. Plenty of knowledgeable guys around to answer any queries too. Happy shopping!

Have you a budget in mind, this is a great starting point.

Where you located? Local cobra club is a good start. I think half of all cobra sales are offline and not advertised on the usual sites. This forum is a good try to.

Welcome and best of luck :)

Welcome Andrew
I agree with Chook. I was looking for a cobra in 2013 and saw one advertised on the Qld Cobra club Facebook page, and ended up buying that one. You learn an enormous amount here on the forum. Everyone is helpful

Hi Andrew,

G'day from a fellow Mexican! Are you looking to buy a finished car, or a kit? Murray is selling his uncompleted Absolute Pace 427SC up in Queensland.

I know of a really nice DRB for sale in Sale (yes, I'm serious. It is for sale in Sale!). The owner wants a lot for it though. As has been asked previously, what is your budget?

Cheers,
Sime

Yeah Murry's car would be a great way to short cut the queue.

Andrew, If you are thinking of a "new build" option........I have a Pace roller and finishing kit in my garage. Details per earlier thread
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/aust...o-37-sale.html

pm me if interested.......even if it's only for a chat. Muz

Hi Sime,

Oh yes I remember seeing the AP thanks for the reminder. I am not a fan of the DRB body to be honest. The bum of them looks all wrong to me. I think they are a lot squarer that the original. (might just be me).

I am looking at buying a finished car or near finished. Its cheaper and I don't really have the space in my garage at home to build one sadly, although I would really love to build one some day.

My budget is between $50K and $70K which looks to be pretty fair from the research I have done. If I was to build I reckon I would need to budget between $70K and $90K.

Cheers

Andrew

Space? My garage is 5m x 4.5m. :)

You're about right for some builds on the price. Some can be well over $100k. I reckon a few of the build kits, if you did want to build, might be less than the $70k. They were when I researched two years back. As usual it depends on your spec and what you do yourself. Most of all how good you are at making yourself forget what you've spent :)

I have one for sale, if you budget is a bit flexible

Hi Guye,

Yeah unfortunately after looking long and hard at my shed I just don't think it will work as I also have to get my pathfinder in there as well. The garage is a double car garage which would be perfect for just building a cobra but not building a cobra and parking another car. Not too mention my girlfriends car will have to park out the front. My choice of house may not have been the wisest idea now.

Btw your build is coming along nicely its looking really good well done. I look forward to seeing it finished. Looks like you will be the test case for rego of PACE here in Victoria. I don't imagine it will be too much of a drama given there is one on the road already and with the build quality of the kit.

Good luck

Andrew

Andrew have a browse through some of the shed threads on here....while there are some cavernous examples, there are also people who have built Cobras in less space than you have, don't let it stop you.

Hi Andrew
Buying or building, Depends on where your interest lies,
Are you particular on what make?
Do you want to enjoy the car and driving it? or building, problem solving and having the satisfaction of doing it yourself?
If you go down the build path, here are just a few thoughts.

Support:
Make sure EVERYONE in your life 100% supports your hobby
Girlfriend, wife, kids, parents, family dog, friends etc. so many projects end up on gumtree because of family get sick and tired of the time and money spent on the hobby.
Make sure you have the time:
It takes time (years) to build on of these cars. It will ALWAYS take longer than what you are told, and if you are depending on outside business to do stuff for you, you will be waiting, waiting and waiting. Their view is, it’s a project car and it can wait.
Have a realistic budget:
Research what things actually cost, what is and what isn’t included in the kit, assumptions cost money. Do you have the tools and equipment necessary?
Again it ALWAYS cost more than what you get told.
Engineering cost, registration and stamp duty cost.

If that doesn’t put you off, you are ready to go.

Or

Find one you like, buy it , drive it …….

Cheers

Kent - You need to change your user name from Lexluther to Confucius or Jor-El

Just saying you seemingly have more in common with those guys...;)

If you have a budget that extends to whatever you can negotiate with Phil, I really do not think that there is a better completed cobra out there.

I thought the Orphan was sold back in April/May? Might well be his first one.

My mistake.... Yep, I think it did sell.

Disregard my above post, and good luck with your search.
