I see the connection Mike, but it might be the other way around. I'm sure the RAM was in production in the 80's.
A bit of googling shows the TVR Chimaera between 1992 and 2003. Also the RAM chassis was designed by F1 and Indy Car designers: David Rendall and Adrian Reynard.
The Butler also uses this type of backbone chassis arrangement
