Started the interior referb..
When I purchased my (97) Cobra a few months back my plan was to change and update it a fair bit, with winter almost upon us here I though it was time to start, so last week it was out with the dash and old beige interior including the tiny seats that I didn't really fit in.
The plan is to redo the interior in black, new dash design, Autometer Cobra gauges, Factory 5 Big & Tall roaster seats, correct shifter & handbrake trim, Dynamat the whole floor, new black carpet etc.
Most of the gauges arrived last week so today I got into making the dash, using MDF I traced the outline of the old dash, I raised the bottom by about 1 inch right across to give a little more leg clearance, brought the center down 100mm as I may ad a retro radio, cut it to shape and drilled out all the holes to my new design, fitted the gauges I had, I'm quiet happy with the way it turned out, just waiting on the switches & lights to arrive then it will be off to get covered in black.
Here's some photos of as it was and the progress so far.

Funny how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I quite liked that green and beige combo.
Shame about the timing too, I could have probably put those skinny seats to very good use.
Given trimming is on my agenda in the near future I'll watch your progress with interest.

Hi Steve,
I agree the green and beige did match but it just looked to old (40's) old man MG style, I just thought it looked dated, the car also needs a few body repairs and a paint job in the future so I'll most likely be changing the colour, thus the black interior...
Oh, those old seats are free to a good home if you want them, I see your in Melbourne..
Cheers

Just a helpful hint.
Being and old wood worker and having just re-done my dash. The MDF will eventually break down and start falling apart ( it sucks up moisture like a sponge and swells), unless you completely cover it with a sealant before you install. If you don't you'll find after a time that instruments and switches will start moving around and eventually fall out.
Best once you have established all guage and switch positions, use the mdf to trace onto 5 or 7 grade plywood.

Thanks mate, I was thinking that I may have to seal it before getting it covered, which I will now do..

Looking great - I reckon a nice motolita wheel would make a big difference too.
Love progress pics.
Cheers

Nice, Wayne. And quick too - you didn't start till at least 2pm cause you had your ear chewed off all morning :-)
Nice to meet you. Thanks for the pipes. Look forward to more updates. Hope to see you at a club meet one day.

Yes I'm looking for a nice but small black wheel, the steering sits fairly low so it needs the same size or smaller wheel for comfort purposes.
I see Snake bite has them, I'll check them out.

I agree on the Motolita wheel Andrew. SAAS make a very nice Motolita style wheel now that's ADR legal.
Love the BRG paint. I reckon a dark saddle brown leather would look great for the seats and trims with black carpet would look really good.
Cheers

Looks great mate - it actually makes the padded dash pad look like it's integrated into the whole design, rather than just being an ADR requirement.
