workshop benches
I need to fit out my shed with new benches, some shelves and cabinets. Not looking for bling but practical and sturdy. Not sure if I should make or buy yet. Any ideas, links and advice greatly appreciated? I need approx 8m of bench and 6m of shelves.

I made my own work benches and bought steel shelving from Home Depot.

Pricing up steel vs buying. I want solid, Like gearbox or half a motor solid. I also need a metal rack of some sort.....sick of stubbing my toe on SHS.....lol.

Some square tubing for supports, 3/16" plate steel for bench top and a MIG welder. Maybe a plasma cutter too....
Then you can make just what you want! 
I have a friend that did just that, but he made the bench top out of 3/4" plywood and covered that with heavy stainless sheet metal fabricated by a commercial kitchen contractor so was seamless and had a back splash and a return on the front. Nice touch but not cheap.

Garage work benches
Gladiator cabinets and Benches....I outfitted my entire garage with their products. I purchased them from Sears, Roebuck. They work off a track system and can be slid along the track or moved easily to a new location...

I have fitted out my workshop with adjustable shelving that each unit is 2.7 long and 2.4 high. Each adjustable shelf will hold 200kg.
As far as benches go I have adjusted the first shelf as low as it will go, the second is at 900mm and have the top two high up giving a good work space with storage below and above.
I have fitted 1x 36w fluros to the underside of the third shelf for working light

Grays online often has this stuff being cleared out from insolvent businesses.
Often in almost new condition and infinitely better than anything you'd find availabile for domestic applications.

Apart from Grays，Ebay sellers always have Dexion racking systems that have workbench configurations available. They have different lengths too.

I also used Gladiator cabinets / benchtops, they're bling but not really "heavy duty"
They do have a welded product range which I think is considerably more heavy duty but I don' think available in Australia. It's all expensive.

I built my bench from timber offcuts from a domestic building site. Worked great as I had complete control over what I built, how big, how many shelves and doors etc.
I made the overhead shelving from timber as well, sizing to suit requirements of plastic drawers, oil containers and other bits I need to accommodate.
I've added to the shelving over the years as I've needed it, but the bench has remained 'as-built' except for the addition of some patina. Definitely no bling involved, but to my eye, it all looks purpose-built and functional. I estapol'd it all to keep it ' oil-proof'....and it still looks good (well I think so).

Home made angle iron bench for me. It's some heavy wall angle (about 5mm wall from memory). The top is 32mm thick MDF set into the angle with a sheet of 2mm gal bent up and laid over the top. It's been brilliant. Very sturdy and easy to wipe down if a gearbox dumps oil all over it.
If you have the time and tools you can build yourself something to fit your space.
However when I built this (about 20 years ago) there wasn't much in the way of benches available to buy. There is a huge range of them out there now.

I have decided to build, I need/want solid. 75x75 steel legs. 5mm plate bench tops. will get some pics as i build them. going to dyna bolt them to floor.
