Ha I'm working all next week at a client's site in Wang and staying at the Gateway.

I am in the hands of my exhaust man and Marty as to whether I can get there for the Fest.

But I am keen as I'd really like to pop my track cherry in the cobra!!

guye 03-01-2016 05:20 AM

Yeah do it Slowy! I need some fellow rookies to learn the ropes with, so I'm not run all over by the likes on Gav and Ben et al! :D

stephen low 03-02-2016 03:09 AM

Ha Guy - your monster will make mince meat of mine and that's just in the handling and braking department - lol

I have pedalled a moderately fast car on a track before but am more than happy to hang out L plates on the cobra and have a go if I can get this errant work done!

Will be chasing my exhaust fellow tomorrow for an update. I do know he will be getting the secondaries coated so that will take some time too. But hopefully that part might have already been started - we will see.

Well it appears the moons have sort of aligned and I can get up to the event, for my first go, assuming all preparatory work gets finished.

Can't get up on the Friday so I'll have to do a launch in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Here's hoping for a dry drive - lol!

guess i will see you there!

Cheers Langers ( AP chassis #61)

I was doing a bit of preventive maintenance last weekend.
A quick diff change has extended to new driveshafts, wheel bearings and hubs.
I hope that's the end of it!!!

Accurate statement. Race track and mechanical sympathy never goes together...

To drive or trailer

So how many tow their cobra up to the fest?

I might now have the missus coming up and if so would rather prefer to leave Friday night but I'll not be able to drive post medical work!

Know the missus would have no issue towing the cobra over driving it and towing means I have far more space for all sorts of goodies.

Not sure though if the trailer (Marty's I hope) would fit under the hotel or if it has to be left at Winton.

What do others do?

And will enclosed style trailers fit below the Gateway?

Moot question

Ignore the previous thread folks.

It's just been pointed out to me that we have a 40th birthday/wedding celebration to go to on the Friday night anyway.

Seems I'll be having a quiet night and early rise as first planned.

Only 1 week to go here's some in car from 2014. Gee the weather at Winton this time of year is pleasant.

The chariot is back together again (thank god) so now all I need to do is give it a wash and load it on the trailer.
Roll on Shelbyfest!

I had a few things to do over the past couple weeks, but little time to get them done.

Have now replaced the rear-circuit brake master cylinder as it was leaking slightly inside the car, I guess it sat around to long in my garage before being fitted and used. Bled all the brakes, had not bled them since before Wakefield and although the pedal felt ok since that track escapade a fair few bubbles came out the front calipers. Pedal is a rock again now anyhow.

Re-positioned the seats by a few mm to stop them rubbing on the body and also raised by 10mm.

Re-fitted the harness to use the built-in chassis mounts (cut a hole in the rear bulkhead) instead of the rollbar cross brace, as they were a bit high to sit on the Hans device properly. Much better now.

Have changed the valves over on the wheels, as I did have nice looking flush mount valves but they were not practical to easily adjust pressures.

Tomorrow will wind up the shocks to 3/4 (up from 1/2) and take it a for a test, then on Monday it's off to Nathan for an alignment and she'll be ready to go.

BTW the supp regs for the event are now posted. Shouldn't be too many surprises, note you DO need a fire extinguisher

Modena 04-02-2016 01:28 AM

oh also got two new front boots after the 180kmh spin at Wakefield left nasty flat spots.

Gav 04-02-2016 01:44 AM

Have you treated them with WD40 yet like I told you to? (It's our little secret)

Modena 04-03-2016 02:48 AM

After turning up the bump and rebound to 3/4 on all the shocks I took it for a little drive and really noticed the difference. It feels like a sports car now and less like a Statesman :D

Seems like maybe its less forgiving now, a bit too much boot and fishy over three lanes of Nepean Hwy....hrm....
