Default BJ's Pace 289 USRRC Build.

Hey guys

I have become another AP builder to join the ranks.
My car will be a close as possible replica of the Ken Miles #98/ csx2431.

Difference being the obvious of a modern Pace chassis and right hand drive but we will try and achieve the desired look of ol' #98 other than that.

Chassis has started and is numbered #98 as well.

This all started at the last Nationals with a brief discussion with Craig and then my dear wife telling me to "Just Do It"
Big thanks to Warren, Craig and the AP team for helping me tick another one off the bucket list.

An idea of what we want.

Wish me luck.
Cheers

Brilliant - it's great to see new builds with modern underpinnings, but with a goal to make the car externally look as period correct as possible.

Who is going to be the first to build a brand new car, but with distressed leather seats, pitted gauges, sun-damaged steering wheel, aged magnesium pin drives and a fading/disintegrating tech sticker on the roll bar from an event at Riverside Raceway in 1965?
Here's your chance, BJ

Are you adding the gas cap splash shield and/or trunk dimples?

Awesome news and a full build thread would be great. I never tire of seeing pics of Pace cars. Good luck, but I don't think you will need it....

Well done Mate....

Thanks Craig, if I keep this for 50 years it should have the look you describe.

Going for the USRRC look so no dimples in the trunk but will probably do the splash shield, should not look out of place.

Great news Brett.
So yours will be a close brother to my AP2289. Looking forward to the build.
What engine and gearbox?

Cheers,
Glen

Hi Glen,
Will run a 331 stroker with a TKO 600 I think, (unless people have a better suggestion for a gearbox to suit.)

Cheers

Looking forward to seeing this car come together Brett. CSX2431 is one of my favorite Cobras.

Are Pace able to supply the FIA style wheels to match?

Cheers

Can't wait to see this build Brett. Will it be dimensionally correct ie, based on a narrow body? TKO 600 also has the option of .82 O/D in place of the .64.

Hope all goes well this weekend.

Andrew - yes keeping the old girl for cruising.

Mike - yes they can supply the FIA wheels which is great.

Dave - Will sit on their 427 chassis but looks right, to me anyway. Wazza may chime in that one.
Hope the rain holds off for the Sydney crew coming down on the weekend.

Cheers
Brett

Agree 100% here. CSX2431 is what a Cobra is meant to be.

Really will be watching this with great interest.

Congrats to Craig and the team, you really are taking on some differing styles between 2XXX series and alloy bodies.

Yes our FIA replica is dimensionally correct.

The base PACE 427 chassis design is used for our FIA chassis, but there are variations between the two where required to suit FIA application.

The FIA also uses it's own variation of our PACE 427 suspension.

So the FIA enjoys all the same main PACE features: Carbon/Kevlar Body, Pushrod Suspension, Alloy Monocoque Chassis with Generous Cockpit Space, Etc.

Just such a beautiful shaped Cobra with a cool history.

The PACE FIA is in production now.

Default Progress

Moving along quicker than anticipated which is a real credit to Absolute Pace's professionalism.
Chassis near completion

Carbon layer into body.

Thanks AP
