Question DRB Hard Top

Gday guys,

Purchased a 1995 DRB a few months ago and im new to this.

Saw the previous thread on hard tops. Im after one to fit my 1995 DRB.

Just wondering how much it would be with the rear window plus side curtains and where's best to get one from? Currently there is no cover or soft top attached. Car was finished without the attachments (clips).

Thanks for your time.

Default hard top

Hi
Try Doug Pearce on 9739 4222 or 0412 554 946. He has two for sale, one is mine (Terry). Address is Factory 13, 91-99 Beresford Road, Lilydale, VIC 3888.

Thanks EVLCOB! Will get stright onto it tommorrow i think i met Doug at a cobra day last year when i was doing the research for the car he was a real help. I also had a look at your fine machine (if im right your user name is the same as your plates)!

What Price is he asking for the two hard tops? Is the RCM and DRB the same dimensions for your hard top to fit mine?

Got any ideas on price on a detachable hard top to be installed plus side curtains?

Cob.au Craig EVLCOB's car is an RCM make.

Thanks very much for your help anyone else got any ideas?

Al

I know I saw a DRB top for sale in Just Parts Mag a few months ago for $300.

I thought that price was pretty good until you look at lining, windows, spraying, and fitting to the body, which would have put it up to the $2,500 mark.

Based upon the above you must be looking at around $3,000 to buy new.

Hi Craig
My hard top is for a R.c.m bare shell only. But you will find most
of them have to be modified to suit different kits

Default hard top

as per usual nothing even comes close to fitting unless you own a kit in which there has been considerable work into the design . my hard top was done by doug pearce after it was discovered it was well and truly beyond me. good luck

I haven't looked into a soft or hard top for mine yet but I guess its not far off if I want to drive all year round. How are the hard tops held down to the body?

Gday guys,

Firstly thanks EVLCOB i went down to doug pearce and bought the hard top it actually fits quite well with only a few minor trimming to the edges surprisingly and yes it was for an RCM cob. It was a hard top that was finished in white and had the back window inserted was this the one you owned previously?

Doug was a real help and so was his workshop bud Rob.

For your info Leeroy i only learnt this morning that the hard top is held down by two braces in both back corners of the cabin and 2 snap clips on the front of the windscreen. There is no need for any clips to be placed on the body. if you want i will get some photos to show you how the top is held down if you wish.

I also asked Doug about his preference on side curtains, he said if you dont want clips showing on the body then go with a plastic/soft side curtains instead of the hard perspex window slides. i have the number for the guy who does the trimming and side curtains.

If you want Doug's number it is on one of the posts above posted by EVLCOB.

Thanks guys for your help and suggestions!

OLSCHL,

Welcome to the madness! You have probably got a heap of information from Doug and Rob and I guess I will put my 2 cents worth as well.

I think I have a photo in my profile with my soft top on, if not I will put one in after I send this. Got mine made at Chris O'Shea motor trimming in Morabbin (Sorry dont have number on me,is in Yellow Pages). I think he use to work for Blackman's in Richmond. Anyway Chris is a bit of a perfectionist so you wont be dissapointed if you go for a soft top and soft side curtains made by him. There are some other excellent trimmers but timing was a problem at some other places when I looked last year. Chris's prices were very competitive

As opposed to the hard top option you can always carry the soft top in the boot ready for any change in weather.

Good luck! If you want to come and see my soft top you are quite welcome.

Regards

TC

Thumbs up Top looks great

Tony,

That top sure does look good.

I have decided to head down the same direction with a soft top. Agree that its more suitable for that quick on and off.

Doug has a very good idea regarding the fitting of the side curtains. He made up some small brackets similiar to the MGA for Tom's red Cobra.

They look good and save drilling into the top of the door.

I am using a company called Red Atlanta in Geelong for my roof. They have just re done my seats. Michael the guy there does all of the Ford motor Co. one off display cars.

He had a Pebble Beach car there when I was first there and it won best trim back in California. A rare Alfa sports racer.

Cheers

OLSCHL

Yes that's my Cobra. Think it is still in white Gel coat and Doug was trying to get it in a high fill this week?

The chassis was built at McDonald Bros. Racing in Thomastown. Rob at Doug's probaly told you I did most of the work with the guys designing and welding. I was the cutter, painter bolt together person.

Rob called over a few times to check progress out. So did Boxhead, Garret and Aussie Mike. This was good as I picked a few pointers up.

My profile camera has a few shots of the Cobra at McDonald's.

Yes you sure can run some miles up. I went to Melbourne yesterday and caught up with Darren at Di Fillipo exhausts in Melton and then over to the boys at McDonald Bros.

So a couple of days gone there and about 1100 k's (625 miles).

Aussie Mike,

Asked previously you must have missed it (another Thread) will you Cobra be finished for Nationals or are you taking your ute up.

Cheers all

Bernie

Sorry Bernie, I didn't see your post.

Yep I'm trying to get the Cobra drivable for the nationals. It probably won't be registered or painted but I'm hoping to be able to trailer it up and have a blast round the track.

Cheers

Aussie Mike

Sounds good.

Darren has finally sorted the exhaust problem out for me. Would have called over to you, but basically raced back at about 1100 this morning after leaving Darren.

Cheers
