Visiting Melbourne Aug 10-16
My wife and I are flying down to Melbourne from the States for round 21. I'm playing in the fan club pre game match. We are looking at hotels in the Southbank area. Is this a good are for touristy type stuff? We are major foodies and will be trying everything we can find. Wish I could bring the cobra to cruise around in.
And suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mike there are many restaurants in the Southbank area. However if you cross the river to the city side there are many, many. more. That doesn't include all the little cafes in the city laneways. A foodies delight

Hey Mike, Doug is correct. Lot of great restaurants and cafes either side of the river. Southbank is a pretty god touristy area.
Round 21 - which team are you playing for in the fan club match?
You're a week later than our monthly club meeting - if the weather's nice we might have an impromptu breakfast somewhere you can come to if you like.
cheers

Hey Mike,
Apologies in advance if you are already aware of this.
Hubing out of Southbank will give you access to everything you could need or want.
It's one of many tourist friendly spots in town.
Melbourne is a great city. Easy to navigate. Easy to get around. And the more you dig the more little gems you can find.
Other than that the only negative is the over policing of harmless, victimless type crimes.
Safe travels and enjoy your trip.

I would absolutely love to meet up and see your Cobras. I will update once we settle on a hotel. I will be playing for Hawthorn. I've been a huge fan since the late 80's. This is a absolute fantasy come true. Kinda like the Cobra I got this year. Man I'm on a roll!! Now I just need to hit the lotto!!!

No sir sorry. I've been so busy. Had a family reunion out of state and busy at work. I will respond with my info on your PM. I'm very much looking forward to to meeting you and the Victoria Cobras. Just verified my vacation request was approved and flights are confirmed. I'm so excited for this trip. I've always wanted to visit Australia and to see and even participate in a real footy game is an absolute dream come true.

Hey Mike,
Just my sense of humour - for those that know me on site here will confirm..
Great to hear your still allowed to head over. The TSA and local Police can be tough..
Look forward to possibly catching up.
Maybe a Cobra ride if you can sneak away from your wife....
Cheers. Bernie

You've piqued my interest as to how you became a fan of Australian Rules football? I've lived here for nearly 70 years and have no interest in it at all.
I thought perhaps you worked here for a time or are an ex-pat, but apparently neither is so.

I was stationed in England for 3 years back in the late eighties. They had a lot of Australian tv shows and I saw my first footy and rugby games then. I was blown away at the raw athleticism and sheer brutal non stop action. Been hooked ever since. I have to pay for special sports cable channels to watch it now but it's totally worth it. I record every game and binge watch them on the weekends. This trip is a dream come true. Can't wait to get there.

That would be great. I've just entered the Cobra life, got mine in March of this year. And although I didn't build it, I did have to rebuild a lot of it. I would love to see a full blown Conra builders shop.
Also, if anybody has a request for anything that I could bring over with me, just give a shout. If I can fit it in my suitcase I will be glad to bring you something.
Mike

Mike, I love the passion, it's akin to my visit to Goodwood a few years ago. Have a fabulous time. If I was a local I'd go and watch you just to see the smile on your face and sense your enjoyment.
PS. Glad it wasn't Warwick Capper's shorts - not that there's anything wrong with that!

We are going to spend a few days in Sydney before we fly home. Send me your contact info and I will buy you a pint.

Mike,
We should be able to drop you and your wife off at the footy, in a couple
of Cobras, let me know if this suits, so long as it's nit raining that is.
Is the game at the MCG?

Mike, Just got back from the MCG watching your Hawks play my Tigers. All I can say is that I am glad I didn't pay too much for my tickets. Cheers Gregg

Wow that would be amazing. I will be confirming our reservations tonight and I will let you know where we are staying. The game is at the MCG. I should get a corporate parking pass with the package I bought so if you plan on staying for the game you are welcome to the pass.
