Squeak from rear of car.
Hi all,
I have weird squeak coming from the rear of the car when I first start driving. the squeak increases in frequency as I increase speed, and it goes away or is masked by louder road noise as I increase speed. It sounds like rotational noise/wheel bearings as opposed to a squeaky bush or suspension squeak. I haven't noticed it as I pull up to or away from lights. It appears to go away with driving but if the car is left sitting for say an hour the noise will come back again, when the car is first moved in either forward or reverse.
Has anyone had similar problems? If it is wheel bearings are they easy to change I have had a look on the net and it looks relatively easy its just measuring the float/pre load that might be tricky.

id get under the car and start looking for something obvious.
Could be a uni, a CV joint or a bearing.

Yep I've XJ series II rear and think I've a similiar issue.
Tried removing pads, cleaning pad retaining rods etc with no luck.
Permanent fix will be the X308 parts to transform the rear to outboard discs and a better system.
Temporary fix is to turn up the volume on my stereo!!!
Sorry not really helpful other than it is a right beeitch to get in and have a go at fixing those inboard discs to no effect.

I would check your universal joints in your tailshaft first, see if there is any play there, then wheel bearings second.

Maybe put it on jack stands and turn the wheels and see if you can find the source of the noise.
I had a squeak too and it turned out to the the stone shield for the rear disc rotors had been bent and was just touching the rotors. Sounded like a dry bearing squeak noise.
Hope you find it and it turns out to be a simple fix. Cheers Gregg

Do as Gregg has said, Only thing I would add is do it with a mate, get him to hold one wheel from spinning, and you turn the other wheel.
Doing this will make your wheel turn and the tailshaft.
no noise then swap sides and repeat to find the noise.
You may want to jack it up and support under the outer bearing carrier so you have the driveline in its normally running alignment, rather than drooping.

I have the same rear end as yours
& had the same noises
change pads to a medium compound & that solved mine [ took awhile to find but ]
had to hard compound pads

Check if brakes, but if not, when the wheel is off the big aluminium section wheel bearing holder has a grease filler at the top. check that its full of grease as even from new these never had enough grease in them.
