Default Cobra Spats

Not sure if this has ever been documented before but for those looking for fender spat ideas....

I bought myself some of that spray on vinyl in a can on the weekend. Ive actually got clear stone guard on the guards but for a play I thought I'd spray on some and see how it lasts.

After the Nats we'll know but it looks OK I reckon. Easy to apply, 10 minute job and wallah!

The whole car looks a bit better than OK. It looks menacing - love it!

Not a bad idea spook. And it just peels off afterward right? Might grab some myself, just for the race protection factor.

Plastidip doesn't always just peel off. Depends on how long you leave it on for.

Does some gentle heat make the removal easier?

Cheers

Yep - Daniel from Classic Revival is your man. He may need you to take a plaster mould of your rear guard first if its not a classic revival or one he has done before. Great guy and very helpful.

Default Another option

I had the clear bra material installed instead of traditional spats. I have about 5000 miles with 100 traction compound tires and all is good. The shop charged 200-250(can't remember for sure) including touching up rock nicks prior to application.

Hi Guys. Got my spats from Europa Spares and they are great. Their web page even has a dimensioned sketch. Here's the link:

I have the clear spats...Invisible and very functional.
Just out of curiosity, I made a template of the drawing shown on that "europaspares" website....
Not even CLOSE to being the right shape/size for my car.
They're not an easy thing to get right, that's for sure.
Cheers,
Warren

I made mine out of leather with thin velcro on the back. I applied velcro pieces on the body using silicone, so if any get's damaged I can peal them off and apply new one's.

Hi Warren. As we have all learned, the Cobra body shape varies from supplier to supplier. Mine, from NAF built in the early 80's) was molded from an original/real 427 Cobra and is very true to the shape.
Perhaps the Europa Spares spats were also shaped to an original Cobra.
Mine fitted with very little trimming.

Cheers

PlastiDip and the similar products will come off easily, the key is to apply multiple (3-4) coats to where you have a decent thickness. If you only apply one or two thin coats it resists coming off easily.
