				Do I have to use an HTOB on an AP car?
			 
			 
			
		
		
		
		I have seen a significant number of reports regarding failure of HTOBs.  
I would be keen to use an external slave in a conventional clutch actuation setup rather than an HTOB if I have the space to do that. 
Can anybody with an AP 427 or a AP 289FIA, fitted with a Windsor engine,  tell me if: 
1. they have been able to fit an external slave and clutch fork 
or 
2. they think there is room to fit an external slave and clutch fork 
 
(I'm using a QuickTime bellhousing/scattershield; not sure if that would make a difference)

		I don't think so Glen unless you modified the tunnel. 
I had to shave the bellhousing as per manual to get it in. Very Limited space. 
That is with a TKO 600 behind a 302 Windsor.

		I’ve seen failures of badly done HTOB’s, but ford specced them for the T5, Saab specced them for most stuff and there are plenty out there.

I don't want to "throw money at a ghost" and I also don't want to have to remove the engine and transmission if the HTOB fails.

		I mean: if the failures are legit, then find out what caused them and fix that, rather than reinventing your whole installation. HTOBs can only fail for a small number of reasons. Alignment, and over stroking. Over stroking is pretty common when badly set up. Easy to fix by putting it in properly in the first place. 		Understood.  
I know that correct alignment is essential and that overstroking will cause damage. 
It also appears that McLeod HTOBs are more likely to have 'issues'.....and Tiltons are the more sensible choice.

I know that Tilton has a good reputation.  I have been racing with a McLeod HTOB for three years now with no failures under race conditions.  Maybe I got one of the good ones.

Not a problem with install and setup with any questions answered over the phone.
