Question Starting a Project

A mate and I have begun the long process of evaluating builders. Like most, we have ruled out Robnel, due to price. However we are looking at some of the Sydney builders and doing discovery work on who we should have a serious chat with.

We have spoken to Clasic Revival, and the guys at Cobra Craft and was hoping we could get some pointers and any opionions, pro or con from experiences that any of you may have had.

Hey guys, Thanks for the advice, the homebush guys will now be on the "have a look at list". Can anyone tell me when the next meeting of the NSW branch of the Cobra Club will meet. We woudl like to come and pick you brains about a whole heap of questions. Don't want to part with this kind of money, without doing a heap of research.

Cheers Mark

Default Kit evaluation

Hiya Churchy

A kit worth looking at is the Harrison built at the gold coast.

The person to chat to is Scott Hampson, Phone 07 3208 8550. He is an agent for the harrison kit and also makes a living running a business called Venom Custom Fabrications specialising in building and customising any make of cobra. He will buiild to any stage.

He is the builder responsible for the twin turbo Lexus cobra below

Worth talking to

Hi Churchy,

I am using the Homebush body and have found it to be very good. I went for the extra 50mm in the length and can guarantee that you are hard to pick this until you sit in the car.

Additionally, I had the footwells lifted 100mm. This also gives you a lot more room in the wells for pedals etc. You may see that I am also placing a small heater in the passenger foot well.

Last year I went to the Cobra nationals and there spoke to a lot of people to get ideas.

This forum is also a good source of ideas and contacts such as Harry the wheel for wheels, Don Pilling for all those accessories and the many helpful forum users with ideas and contacts.

May see you at Wakefield. In the mean time keep asking questions.

Cheers

Bernie

Churchy - I'd have to agree with Les the Rebel about the Harrison kits. Scott is their Brisbane agent (I call him on 07 3208 3224 - where'd you get that other number, Les? )

He's the real-life Magyver. Just when I resigned myself to spending big bucks to bolt on any any given part for my car, he takes a couple of bits of alloy from this shelf, some steel from this shelf, fires up the Lathe/Tig/Hoist/polishing wheel/Oxy/Grinder and air compressor (not always in that order), and turns out a masterpiece that is custom made for your car at less than what the off the shelf parts would have cost.

He does everything from small fabrication jobs to complete, turn-key cars. He looks in here from time to time under the name OZVENOM, or you can email him at bigdoca@hotmail.com

Are you and your mate going to build up one car each, or is this a partnership deal? What sort of engine are you hoping to put in it?

No worries Les! I thought Scott might have had a different "priority" phone line for people that pay up front, or something.

The final stage of my car coming together really sucked me dry - the diff cost an extra couple of grand that I hadn't planned on, then the windscreen, rego, insurance, engineer, electrician etc. Now that my car is finished, I thought I would start saving money again. It's not working - I have to pull into every damn service station I go by. I thought EFI cars were supposed to be fuel efficient....

Hi All,

Thanks very much for the feedback, and I hope we get to the stage one day where I can wear a chamois on my head. We are meeting NSW Cobra Club at one of thier next meetings on the 13th of August and will be armed with a heap of questions. Looking forward to sniffing some petrol and having a long chat about a whole heap of issues relating to the Cobra's.

Cheers

Mark

Hey,

Get over to Goulbourn to the Nationals its only a few k's for you.

Start a real debate on who has the better kit. Whoa what a great discussion to have over a beer.

Seriously it would be a great opportunity to see every kit and also talk to owners.

Never know a few of us may introduce ourselves.

Jason will be the one wondering why Judy can get around the track quicker than him

I will have the Weekend at Bernie's promotional stand. I am into corporate hospitality now!! Selling Jackets, umbrellas and sheep skin products for the warm climate in mt. Gambier.

Hey I found a good heater also. TCR did not have one in stock but I tracked one down in Canberra for $315 total - new. Has all the mounts etc.

Last year Don Pilling was at Goulborns Wakefield Park with a great display of everything he has in stock. So this will also give you an idea on whats available.

Additionally one of the guys will introduce you - they did with me last year - to the guys that make everything from windscreens to wheels at home. Again this will help.

Really must go.

Work early tomorrow.

Cheers

Bernie.

What heater did you eventually get, was it one of the new design ones that TCR sells or a different one?

Don Pilling makes some great stuff, Nice fella too, but then that can be expected, he's from Queensland

Dont know if you know, but Don had a very nice RMC. He has since sold this and is putting together a Robnel.

Gonna put in a big block too....damn, Its gonna be hard to beat these fellas

Hi Les,

Ray did not have the heater I wanted so I ended up getting one from Canberra.

Phillip Radiator Service in ACT advertised in Australian Street Rodder magazine. I paid $315 plus $15 postage. It arrived earlier today via courier and was well packed.

It is very small and runs a double fan and a big panel outlet. You would need to put some duct work on it to run demisters to comply with registration requirements.

It is rated very high in output and the guy there said it cooks him in a roadster.

I did not know that Don has/had an RMC. My first Cobra was Mike Moores burgundy Cobra from early Mangalore days and West Wylong. I later sold this to a guy in Geelong Adrian Matrhews. I am not sure if he is involved in the Victorian Club.

Jason may respond here - if privacy laws permit.

Cheers
