Default Foot Box cooling

I've heard stories about searing heat in the foot boxes so I intend to put insulation between the alloy liners and the glass foot boxes..but

I'd also like to install some form of fresh air to the inside of the foot boxes to keep my tootsies from roasting.

I intend to feed air from the front "brake cooler" openings to the foot boxes but would like to also install some form of shut off thingy controlled by a push pull cable. Something like the butterfly in a carby but mounted in some light housing that flex tubing will attach to.

Anyone know of a local available thingy??. There has got to be something out there from some auto heater/airconditioning units......but what?

I think 50mm would be big enuff to force enuff air at say 100klm to cool my dainty lil tootsies. what do you think?

Why do I feel this is gonna bring on some comments about Queensland heat from our southern cousins.

Les - have you seen the insulation on my car? I was paranoid about heat inside the footbox, as I extended the driver's footbox by 8". This put the back 3 exhaust pipes almost hard up against the footbox.

I have HPC coated the headers.
Most of the header length is HPC coated
There's an airgapped alloy panel inside the engine bay.
There's some alloy-bonded fibreglass matting style temp shielding stuck between the alloy panel and the footbox.
The alloy/fibreglass matting is also inside the footbox.
Then the carpet.
Then my shoes
Then my socks
Then my dainty little tootsies...

I guarantee that you can not feel the slightest bit of engine / exhaust heat inside the car. Nothing....

I was all set to install something similar to http://home.mindspring.com/~egroce/id1.html , but it's absolutely not needed.

I went overboard, but I'm sure if you had the pipes HPC'd, then attached a gapped alloy / stainless panel, then fitted this alloy/glass bonded material against the engine bay side of your footbox, you wouldn't ever have a problem.

Default Thanks Craig

I've got some of that glass/alloy insulation blanket stuff.

Am putting that between the alloy liner and the glass footbox just as you described. Will also put it under the carpets on the floor to keep exhaust pipe & Catalytic converter heat from the cockpit.

Will also HPC the headers ..and will have some heat shields to provide the air gap as you describe between the headers and the footbox.

So I guess that should be enough hey?
Looked at the site you listed....Thats one mean piece of pipe and with a blower too....overkill for me tho.

Don Pilling mentioned that his cats were melting his carpets and that glass/alloy insulation cured the problem.

Many thanks for your advice...Much prefer not to put in the vents if I dont need them.

I had planned on fitting a ford 75mm throttle body on top of my footbox, and run some ducting to it. I had it in my mind, but thankfully it wasn't needed.

If you ever need any heat shielding / cladding / lagging products, http://www.bellis.com.au are located at Musgrave Road, Cooper Plains. They have EVERYTHING you could ever need, and they sell trade price to the public.

Default Thanks again Craig

Hope I dont need any more insulation... I bought enough to even cover the center tunnel if I need it.

I'll keep them in mind tho should I need more or something different.

You wanted something from the southerners Rebel! How bout a little foot spa to keep you little tootsies cool!

At least the heat would dry the nail polish on your toes a little quicker!

Andy.

Default Air duct control flaps

I am stretching my memory but I think the older troop carrier cruisers had a liitle push pull cable to open and close little flaps on each side of the dash?

Default Thanks Boxhead

But....after Craigs post i've given the thought away.

My car is essentially the same as his and if his is as cool as he says, thats good enuff for me.

I've got a heap of the insulation blanket he refers to and will put that under all my alloy liners.

Thanks for the idea tho
