Default Mikes Qld visit, and why my knob's so shiny....

When Mike made his flying visit through Brisbane the other week, the first thing I saw when he walked into the Mexican restaurant was this great big, shiny knob that he just flopped out and plonked onto the table.

Now, there's obviously a bit of rivalry going on here, but that's a bit much isn't it?

Anyway, not one to pass up an offer, I grabbed that knob with both hands. Look at where I put it........

Oh no, there's a shiny bit on it! That means you'll have to start polishing all the other bits to match!

A piece of 1" dowel, some valve laping paste and an hour at the drill press would have that dash panel looking awesome.

I'm glad the thread was the right pitch and size. You just need to get a logo to stick in the top. I've got a Chev one lying around here somewhere.

When my wife saw how well polished my knob was she was a bit upset that I was giving it away to someone else She was happy again when I told her I would buff one up especially for her.

Cheers

Mike - Dad's been at me for a while to go for the engine turned look. (That's what they call it, isn't it?) That'd have to give out some pretty radical radiated light reflections, wouldn't it?

That Chev logo sounds inviting, but I'll have to decline your generous offer...

You can be happy in the knowledge that the knob is the shiniest part of the car. The throttle body is a polished billet piece, but it's slowly but surely getting back to a satin finish...... just the way I like it. I just can't get the enthusiasm for polishing!!

"Engine turned" that's the term, I couldn't remeber what it was called. I think it's a good looking effect and I'm tempted to do a section of my dash around the guages. Not sure how the reflections would go since it's not a highly polished effect. Couldn't be much worse than the reflections from the glass in the guages. There shouldn't be too much work to maintain it either since it's not super shiny.

I'm not much good at keeping things polished either. You should see the state of the wheels on my F truck.

Cheers

Mike - I'm glad you can see that my satin finish dash is not merely a dirty sheet of aluminium, but rather a carefully prepared item that has been nurtured and cultivated into a non-reflective item of safety.

I like to make sure that everything that is fitted to my car meets all legislative requirements.....
