Which Tyre?
I am in the process of restoring a neglected cobra to a -- 'close to orignal looking' -- cobra, under the skin may be a whole different story
I want to run the original 15" wheel size, and I was wondering which tyre combinations cobra owners are using and for what purpose - crusing, racing, both?
It seems that in 17" there is a lot of choice, less as you move backwards through time.
I would ideally like to run a Dunlop D98J or similar, but I don't think they have the sizes to suit.
Any thoughts?

Cameron, my last Cobra had 265/50/15 Yokos on a 15x9" rim, but it looks like they don't make them anymore..... I loved the look of that tyre size on the car. I did a search through www.tirerack.com , and there's not much available in 15" !
BFG still make the rock hard T/As in various 15" sizes. They're fine for low stress cruising, but I wouldn't plan on putting in any hot laps at Qld Raceway with them...
BFG make a 325/50/15 drag radial if you want to put some really big feet on the car

Cameron, I'm still building but have a set of Oz-Wheel halibrand replica wheels, 8" and 10".
On these I have 235/60/15 and 295/50/15 Yokohama 352's.
Not the best of tyres but "OK" for the road.
If you're anywhere close to the northside of Brissy you're welcome to have a look.

Les,
did you buy the 352's recently?? If they are discontinued, I will need to get my $%^ into gear.
And thanks for the invite, I might just take you up on it.

My local tyre supplier says that KELLY also make wide tyres for 15" rims.

Yep..only 2 months ago I bought em... I did ask the fella at TyreTech if they were going to be discontinued as I was willing to purchase 2 sets if they were.
He rang Yokohama for me and was told as far as they knew they were to continue for some time.
They are a nice pattern and the sizes are per the original car. If you're game you can put the white lettering on the outside......I wasn't

Thanks Les... Great!!
I will on to them tomorrow. I have a set of Trigo Knock On's in original spec.
In a previous car I ran 352's on the rear, and A008's on the front to assist turn in and combat understeering. It sounds like that is still the likely combination.... 10 years later!
I guess I will be up for a set of 17" PE Knock On's for when i get serious.
Now how am I going to explain that to SWMBO

If not...Like you....another set of wheels for the serious times.

Hey SWMBO works at a near by parlour - Mistress Louise
I run thye BFG on 15" rims and went this way after deciding to go nostalgic race car. However must agree that they are hard and there is little ride give. Running them at 18psi and 20psi
Hope to get a set of rims to play on the track with. So I am watching the suggestions here.
Cheers

I noticed that Hoosier have a 'Street Tread" series "I". Loks like a lightly grooved racing slick. Would probably be challenging in the wet
the sizes seem to be suitable to the 15" wheels. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of these?

OK.. so I bit the bullet -- 352's all round. With the Aussie dollar in the stratosphere, getting another set of wheels from the USA is not out of the questions.
I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of the Trigo 427 original replacement wheels with knock on hub converters.. less than some local alternatives...
So who's for a bulk order of PS Engineering 17 X 7.5 and 17 X 10's ???
Oh...I forgot... I just bought enough rubber to solve China's population explosion, and it's Christmas next week... I'm broke
Oh well, what else is new...

Good onya Cameron...what sizes did ya get?
I meant to tell you if you mention the Queensland Cobra Club to TyreTech they will give a discount.
Bernie!!!! Mistress Louise?... I'm told the BFG's you are running are actually re-cycled rubbers from the bin at the back of her place.
Dont tell me you paid twice for ya tyres?

tyres etc
Cameron,
Knockons way to go! I am thinking of getting some Trigos, whats the best way of shipping them?
There is a downside interchange with other wheels, but I guess the adapter can be unbolted and a normal wheel fitted in case of a punture.
There is an outfit in NZ, Arrow wheels he makes the threaded hub/wheels and imports the three lug nut, but his prices are NZ$6180.75 (AUD$5402.11) for 4 wheels, and hubs/nuts, I guess Trigos wouldn't much or if any dearer than that!

The Trigo's are US$2400 for a full original spec set with adapters, and the casting is art!
You can ship via LCL sea for probably around $2-300 maximum. If you have a contact in the US who can 'buy' them for you and is able to ship you a 'used' set, there are many savings to be had on your end....
Lynn Park at Trigo is super helpful and will get them out to you ASAP... though the longer time you have the chaeper the shipping.
I am delighted with them....

You might want to talk to the guys at Superformance about knock off hubs and wheels. I bought a set of hubs from them and the price was very reasonable. They also do some beautiful 15" hallibrand style wheels to go with them and I think the price was very good on them too.
Give Brian a call at CTC (03) 5622 3370 and he will fix you up. These guys are the Australian agents for Superformnce and are really helpful.
I'm getting a set of 3 piece Halibrand replicas made to suit my hubs. Ozwheels in Sydney are doing them and they make a very nice wheel. 17x11 and 17x8 and around $2800 the set.
I borrowed Leeroy's bolt on versions to see how they would fit on my car. there is a picture in my gallery here: Wheels
Cheers

Hi Mike
Must say I agree the SPF bits and pieces are both reasonable and quality.
I am some what worried that Garrett maybe getting a big head here.
Keep working on the car there.
