New Vic On The Block
Hi All,
Wow what an impressive site
So i thought i'd drop by and say g'day.
I'm still waiting on delivery of my RCM kit which i purchased from Laurie a few weeks ago, should be here end of Jan.
After driving Laurie's 600hp beast, i was that blown away with it i couldn't get my cash out quick enough.
Anyone here driven Laurie's car (ACCOB)? If so what was your impression?
Have many decisions to make over the next few months in reguards to colour, engine options, wheels etc, perhaps you guys will help me decide?
Picked up my first part for the build lastweek, a new windscreen complete for $800, bargain or what?
Also i'm in the process of joining the Vic Cobra club, just as soon as Jason gets back to me.
Looking forward to getting to know you guys in the future!
Cheers Robert Kolbeck (Robo)

Welcome
Welcome to the zoo Robert.
The smile you had driving Laurie's car will be nothing compared to the thrill of driving your own car and that smile will be permanant.
Cheers,
Bryan

Robo - congrats on the purchase !!! Good deal on the windscreen. It's hard to see where the value is with the screens, but it's a bit hard to drive a Cobra without one. If I only have one piece of advice to give, it'd be to follow Laurie's lead and fit a supercharger

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas, much appreciated.
Bryan, yep spot on.
Nodoubt that when i get my kit finished it'll be one of the proudest moments in my life, probably comparable to the birth of my daughter. Now i just hope there are no delays in getting it home, have spent many hours already prepping the work space in the shed.Come to think of it, its like having a baby all over again .
750hp; thanks mate. Yes i see what you mean about the screen, there's not much to it at all, nicely made though, even has the aus safty std logo and is laminated, hope it lasts forever.
There are plans to fit a blower further down the track once she's registered, i havn't looked into this yet and may need some guidence in this area as i havn't had much to do with them and there are so many to choose from these days.
Rebel1; G'day
Well actually NO!
The original plan was to fit a 454BBC that i'm building at the moment but Laurie reckons i'll never get it registered so i'm following his advice and going with a Gen111 for now for ease.
Fitting a Ford would be nice for originality but its all extra expence.
When the time arrives i'll look into it further. Need to speak to Vicroads first as i belive there are going to be more changes in 2005 that will outlaw import engines (correct me if i'm wrong).I'm really hopeing to have her registered by this time next year if not sooner.
Cheers all

Hi Rob,
Yes welcome
Talk with Doug Pearce he was telling me there are a few changes to the VicRoads thinking on engines.
If I recal there was a lot of objections to VicRoads and they have put the whole engine thing on hold.
A neighbour here in Mt. Gambier recently purchased a 302 and box with low k's for $4500. This included some parts as well for his conversion.
Laurie also has some good ideas on Ford engines etc.
Have fun.
Glad to hear you survived the trip around the block with Laurie there.
Cheers
Bernie

G'Day Bernie,
Thanks for the vicroads info, i checked their website and couldn't find anything relevent so I'll give Doug a call, hopefully someone there can shed some light on the subject.
Hmm, $4500 sounds reasonable for a 302 and trans, any idea where it was purchased?
Yes Laurie seems pretty switched on when it comes to Fords and id love to have him build me a blown and stroked 351, he's asking for 10k which is pretty fair for a 600hp motor thats extreamly tame on the street, untill u mash it of course
Bernie it was a perfect sunny Melbourne morning, i could of gone around the block all day long alas we only did a lap each and that was in top gear as his auto wouldn't shift down and the thing still broke traction at will.Yep an amazing engine!
I won't be making a decision on an engine for quite some time yet or atleast untill i speak with vicroads so we'll have to wait and see what the future holds.
Rebel1, There is hope!
Cheers all Robo

G'day WILDAC,
Yep, I've driven Laurie's beast. Like you I was in top gear only. I've never been in a car that only needed one gear. Went from 60 to 120kms in 2-3 seconds. Absolutely amazing!
Bought a kit straight away. Laurie was telling me last week he has sold another 3 kits since the show & shine in Caulfield. I think he has sold over 15 kits for the year. So there should be some more RCM's appearing on this forum soon. With a demo like Laurie's, the car sells itself.
Earth to Reptyl, come in Reptyl. We have another Vic on Club Cobra.
I'm curious about the Gen3 Laurie would prefer a ford in one of his Cobras. Has he modified the engine mounts to accomodate the Gen3?
Laurie's most famous quote, "Supercharge it!"
Yep, once mine is registered, on comes the blower. Once you've experienced it you can never return.
Cheers & welcome aboard

G'day WILDAC,
Well done on your recent purchase. The vic's certainly are building in numbers. Good deal on the screen you got, I just picked mine up the other day $1470 with windwings etc. made here in Melb. beautiful screen but not $800, thats leaves $670 more to spend on your motor. I have changed my mine a dozen times on color for mine but kids and wife say if its not blue with white stripes its to the doghouse, I'm keen on BRG with stripes but majority rules?? we'll see about that!!!!
Cheers Leigh.

Hi Robo,
I went down the same path as you when I first started looking at a Cobra kit. I have a BB Chev and 4 speed sitting under the bench and figured I'd stuff it into a Cobra.
A little more investigation revealed it would be very hard work to get the Big Block through emissions so I decided to go modern and high tech and there is a Gen3 and 6 speed sitting between the rails now.
The big block is still under the bench and it can go in an A model roadster for the wife
Anyway welcome to the club. You will find a huge pool of knowledge here and probably an answer for just about any Cobra question you could think of.
Cheers

Yep same here, that is some promotional vehicle eh!
Laurie would actually prefer a Ford in his kit thats for sure, but the Gen 111 makes for a easier conversion and is cheaper and easier to source.
Another reason i like the chev is that there is real good interface software available for the delco ECU and no need to go aftermarket.

I dare say anyone who drives Lauries car will want there's to go exactly like his, that blower whine is just sweet music to my ears.
It seems where all in the same boat, get is registered asap and then Blow it down the track.
G'day Leeroy
Thanks,Yeah i think the price of Lauries kits may have something to do with the number of Vics building at the moment, thats if you can get one!
Ouch your screen cost $1470 i guess i did ok then, but mine didn't come with wings only the small body plates has all the holes though.
I dunno what colour either, i can't decide between 3, blue, green or violet, but one things forsure someone has already done it before.
Good luck picking your colour!you have a lot of blues to pick from.
I really like the VT ss comodore green, check out this cob already done.
Absolutly beautiful!
Hi Jason, thanks
Ive emailed you my membership form, have you recieved it?
It appears there a quite a few owners in the southeast, that should make organising Sunday drives real easy?
Hi Mike,
Looks like i'm stuck with my BBC aswell, actually i built it to replace a tired 400sbc in the Landcruiser, so it'll prolly go in back in there as origionally planned.
I still need to speak with Vicroads to clarify things so i can make a finial decision.
You have one lucky wife there! a bigblock A model,
Yeah the info in this place is amazing and if only started to scratch the surface, there's not enough hours in one day
Cheers all and thanks for all the welcomes
Robo
