1/4 mile...

hi all,

long time no post...good to be back after being buried in work for the last month and a bit!

ok...here's the go...what can your cobra do on the 1/4mile? what time and at what speed? its braggin time fellas! please try to avoid exaggeration ;)

Clois Harlan 03-08-2004 12:17 PM

11.82 with a burned out clutch (smoked all the way down the track) and 118 mph.

I expect to be in the low 11's next week at the drags at No Problem Raceway in Baton Rouge, LA

Unique 289_FIA 03-08-2004 12:44 PM

That track has the best traction of any I've been to. You'll easily pick up a couple of tenth's if traction was previously an issue.

I'll be running my Cobra there for it's initial shakedown run. Hoping for 115 or better since that's what I had in my MR2. :D

11.89et /120.5mph
Superformance with Ford SVO 392 Stroker + Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads & AED Dominator carb.
Yokahama Aviads. Traction (or lack thereof) is a major issue.

inazuma_x 03-09-2004 12:53 AM

whoa...them some low numbers...my mini does about 19secs on the 1/4 mile at 60mph (top speed)...hehehe...hopefully my cobra will do better...

Nice mpg Brian

Unique 289_FIA 03-09-2004 08:47 AM

What rpm do you guys usually launch at? I used to slip the clutch at 5500 for 1.6s short times in the MR2, but somehow I don't think that'll work with the Cobra. :D

FYI, I'd be running a 354 stoker at ~ 420hp, Centerforce clutch and 275 Nitto drag radials. Assume a sticky track.

Hotfingrs 03-09-2004 09:22 AM

I am usually at no more than 2000 rpms 1.4 60' times

Hi Guys

My best aspirated ET is 10.79 @ 126 mph
& Nitrous assisted ET is 9.81 @ 139 mph
I have been lucky enough to have an feature in Street
Machine this month but they forgot to thank Cob 460 for his
engine work

Aussie Mike 03-09-2004 11:50 PM

Hi 9 Sec, I enjoyed reading that street machine article. Very impressive times for a car that doesn't appear to have a lot of rubber under the back. The bolt in funny car cage is a nice touch too.

Cheers

Hi Mike
Thats the problem with DRB kits not much room for big meat
I`m still running the 7" rims on it so you can`t use the gas off the mark ,

Cheers

Rob

Rob,

Can't wait to see the article. What nitrous setup are you running?
My engine was setup to run nitrous but I haven't put a system on yet. Did they give you grief when you dipped into the 9's? I hope to run 10.50's on the motor first before the giggle gas. Any info is appreciated.

What are the best times people are seeing w/ pretty much stock street tires. I have 295/50-15's with 544 lb-ft torque. As most of you understand from personal experience, traction is limited....ahem...non-existent in 1st and 2nd. Limited would best describe 3rd.

I'm considering the BFGoodrich Drag Radial T/A 315mm tires for the rear at some point, but am curious as to what kinds of numbers people see w/ S-rated goodyear 295s.

What kind of improvements have anyone seen w/ the upgrade from the street 295s to drag radial 315s?

Thanks,
JP

Best time so far is 11.747 @ 112mph
on street tires TA's 295-50-15's rear

V6 turbo:D

MidOHasp 03-10-2004 10:21 AM

Grand National motor? cool :)

Dave Bermani 03-10-2004 01:30 PM

Do you guys also have 0-60 times? For us non-dragstrip drivers that number is good for comparing to published times for other cars.

Dave

MidOHasp 03-10-2004 04:47 PM

0-60's tough when the speedometer is bouncing between 50 and 70 at 60mph and there's no traction up to 60.

Off the line is tough. Beauty of the car is that you can stall it off the line, misplace your keys, have to jump start it, slam a diet dr. pepper, then catch up and beat the crap out of the guy you're racing. :)

JP

But I figure even with a rough launch, around 4 seconds. Drag radials, probably around 3.5-3.7 seconds.

I can't mess it with the big boys times.
But, this is a daily driver on el'cheapo 255/16 rubber.
It's been given a very hard time ever since birth in 1998 and has never let me down.
Last time out at Heathcote Park I ran a 12.8 at 110.
With a good tune on a cool day I'd be good for 12.4 (maybe).

Heading back out to Heathcote at the end of the month, I'll see what I can hook up a low 12.
