Chassi to suit 4.6/5.4 ltr blocks
Hello Crew;
Is anyone aware of companies ( here or abroad) that are tooling up to produce a kit that will take a new Ford Quad cam block , considering rule change's for registration here in Australia .I know that people are doing this allready ( eg one offs ), but has anyone actually stepped up to produce in numbers or planning to.
The days of the Windsor small block and Jag diff seem to be closing and I'm wondering what will be the next 'most popular' combo.
I'm well aware of the "dark side" and their growing popularity, but from a Blue oval perspective........can we get some late model technology right through the drive train from a manufacturer in numbers.
Then again its probably business suicide to not have a degree of flexibility and I suppose you can have anything you like if your prepared to pay !.

FFR just announced that their mark III kit will be able to accomondate a 4.6 donor engine. I don't know all the specifics but I believe you can check their website for more details.

I have seen a 4.6 in a classic revival and it only just fitted the guy that owned it wanted to use a 5.4 but there was know way it would fit as it is a lot taller than the 4.6.

Look for a white car, blue racing stripes, red rookie stripes, and dual roll bars. There are a number of pics of the engine installation.

Thanks for the links and information fellas.
I wasn't sure about the different dimensions between the 2 (4.6 vrs 5.4 ). Obviously the 5.4 is a bigger girl ( thanks Craig ) and here in Australia that will be the one that we will try to make work, due to availability in our road cars.
Has anyone got one cooking here with the 5.4 Boss motor ?

Word has it that if you measure from the outer edge of the rocker covers from one side to the other, the quad cam 5.4L is 13 inches wider than the Gen 3 at the same point!

Laurie Bongailas (RCM) is developing his chassis to accomodate a 5.4 Boss. If you want to give him a call let me know and I'll send you a PM.
That said a 5.4 is full of compromises -
For a start it is 3 feet wide so it is unlikely three pedals will fit or if they do they will be serverely offset. The intake manifold is too high, however this can be solved by fitting a custom lower manifold, being developed as we speak. Clearence problems with the steering shaft, modified oil sump, inspection holes in footwells for exhaust manifold bolts etc etc. These are the known problems at the moment - all are apparently fixable.
Or you can just join the dark side and drop in a Gen 3
Considering a Gen3 makes as much power, is much easier to install & a weights A LOT less, it is not surprising that many new builds are using them.

I believe DRB have completed a prototype for the 4.6 with intention for future production.

I first wanted to use the new boss motor but after measuring it up and realizing how much leg room etc you would lose the gen 3 is by far the best option . I hope someone can come up with a way to fit the boss in without to many compromises its a good motor with alot of horsepower waiting to be unleashed with some computer work .

Hi, the DRB cobra from gold coast will fit the 4.6 or 5.4 v8. They have redesigned the entire car to accomodate the new engines. Nice units. Cheers Steve.

We installed a Superchaged SOHC 4.6 in a Hunter kit. A bit of a trick but it can be done.

The big problem is all the harness mods that have to be made to work in the Cobra. That and the anti theft system built into the computers.
