Default Headlamp bucket & dress trims

Hello again everyone, I have been searching cc for the past hour & half but still cant find the answer to my question.

What headlamp bucket and chrome dress ring do you use?
Do the units from a mini fit or mg?

Who has a contact for an Australian supplier?

If anyone is interested there are a set of P7000 lights for sale on ebay here in Australia, so I presume they re for right hand drive.'

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tem=2472338921

If I was ready to buy mine then I wouldnt be telling you all

Go to Finishline and email Paula. They are a CC advertiser so linl is on left side of page here. They are wonderful to work with for all your parts needs.

I used mini headlight bowls with chrome surround from a Healy.
The Healy Factory in Melbourne sell them new and cheap.

I also use them for blinkers, taillights, rear vision mirrors, boot hinges and the boot/bonnet hardware.

I used buckets from a series I Jag. Most pommy cars with the round headlight setup will suit. The chrome rings are off an MG. They have the correct line and match the angle of the guards perfectly. Snakebite and Harrison sell them.

Pommie car lights (as off a mini) do fit.

Pretty sure AC used lucas light fittings, which mini's used too.

Mine are Narva H4 lenses Part No. 029388. I find with the halogen globe night vision is spot on.

I really only need buckets and dress rings as I will be putting p7000 lights in.

Thanks again for the info, that is another little note that has gone into my cobra shopping list file.

The best place I've found is Classic and Vintage Bulbs in South Australia. This guy has the lot and the best prices I've found so far. He also has the P700 lamps at good prices. It may not be listed on his web site but he has a huge range of original Lucas lights. I bought the L691 & L692 tail lights and indicator lights from him as well as an original number plate light. He also has original style mirrors.

The Classic Revival body is designed to use MGB sized trim rings which are the same as the originals.

Cheers

Hi Boxhead

If you use Mini or Morris Minor/Oxford parts watch the dress rings. The original stainless dress rings on the older cars are slightly larger than the new rings. The new rings fit exactly to the body of your Cobra.

This is due to the stainless ring having a slight return back to the body.

Now the stainless button head question.

Check out

"khrace" - who Posts on 'clubcobra' he has Posted some pictures of his Daytona coupe build.

Under the 'Functional brakes scoop' photo in his gallery, you will see the button heads attaching the perspex scoop to the body.

Any fastener shop stocks these in all sizes.

Cheers

Bernie

Believe it or not, Kawasaki Police Bike headlight rings were an exact replica of my rings........the headlight bucket worked too, although it was not a "closed-back" bucket, but open to the inside of the fairing of the police bike.

Minis, Jaguars, Healeys and Escorts all had the same buckets. All except the Escort had the same chrome rings. You should be able to get buckets and rings from any Mini wrecker, and they are generally in very good condition. Lucas have stores in Aus as well, or even through Repco - you can probably get the parts new.

David,

The buckets are complete including ring to hold headlight. The body gasket is also there but you may want new ones. They are all cleaned up and painted hammertone. Pay the freight and buy me a beer at the nationals and there yours.

Regards,

Phil
