Default Jack Pads

Simple query:

Are the jack pad "over riders" legal for road use in Oz?

Side pipes aren't legal on the passenger side!!!! I believe there may be a car or 2 running them though.
(Think I saw one the other day ) ;P

Better knowing that not when you get pulled over - as most of us will with the upcoming holidays

Yeh - I know most of the issues there are with such cars (sidepipes / clearance / no number plate / noise etc etc etc).

Better being prepared than not

I can't see why they wouldn't be legal?

Because they are bloody dangerous.

Imagine hitting a kid (not that I do very often) they would slice through them like a kitchen knife.

Yeah, but at the same time, I imagine that hitting someone with or without them would be just as bad?

Jase

Now who's car would be running sidepipes, jack pads, N.O.S or anything else illegal...

I don't think anyone would be doing that..

Note - my query started off with the word "SIMPLE" that being only one correct response required.

The jack pads were for show, not for serating kids. Mind you Bern, a bit of free advertising with some low cal burgers on the ends would look and smell good.

I gave a simple answer. Or maybe my answer was that of a simple person.

In NSW when you go for Pink slip there is a box that needs to be ticked off by the inspector. It simply states "any dangerous protrusions"

That would mean no quick jacks, no spinners and suppose would pick up side pipes as well. My plan is to remove spinners(got some big hex nuts) take off quick jacks and try to talk my way through on the side pipes.

New cars in NSW dont need inspection for three years after first purchased. Not sure if individually constructed vehicles are treated the same way. Will know in Feb 2005.

Id say the simple answer is no. But if we were all do gooders we wouldnt be driving Cobras would we

Phil,

I just received my rego renewal papers last week. It states "Inspection not required"

After all, Cobra's are just normal cars aren't they?

Was there a special jack for the jack pads or did they just use a floor jack? It almost looks like a bar would go under both of them so as to raise both tires off of the ground, or would you just jack on one pad at a time?

Photos I've seen show a bar/ lever arrangement lifting back or front in one go. Must have stuffed the bodies a bit.

Bodies of the cobra or the pit crew.

Imagine lifting a big block with a bar

I've always thought that the trolley system used in Formula One would be what is used to lift a Cobra fitted with jack pads?

Lightbulb Just wait until someone 'Posts" a photo - see how good my explanation is

A triangular frame with wheels on the base each end. A handle across the apex/top of the triangle frame to hang onto and push down with.

The base slipped into the jack base and the mechanic pushed the apex handle to the ground lifting the Cobra approximately 12 inches.

Similiar operation to a lifting hand trolley.

I have seen them used on other cars.
