Default Xxx 2

I know you're all hanging out for XXX2 anyway and this little tidbit would never influence your choice of celluloid selection but I have seen the ads on the Teev and I'll be buggered with a big prickly stick if I didn't spy a ......

2005 SHELBY COBRA

Just like Charlie's Angels 2 with the AC Cob (not to mention 3 hotties), a possibly sub-par fillum reverts to hot cars and explosions to make some cash.

Next time you see the ads it is a gray with silver stripes as the Detroit Show one was and it is seen from the back late in the ad.

I think it is also visible earlier in the ad - haven't watched on slo-mo

Cheers

I spotted that add and thought the same Batman.
I even mentioned it to my wife that we will have to go for a look.

If anything is a replica that is it! Shelby's name doesn't do it for me

Just like Charlie's Angels, they've probably build half a dozen "replicas" to smash up!

Default Replica of the New "Cobra"

I saw a special on "Rides" the other night, regarding the use of the new "Cobra" in the new "XXX" film. It was pretty interesting. They built four "replicas" of the car out of fiberglass to use as stunt cars and camera cars in the movie. They built the bodies for the replicas at Saleen's shop, in Troy, MI, where they paint the new Ford GT's.

The guy who was interviewed at Saleen's for the show is the same guy who painted my ERA. Seems he oversaw the construction of the movie car extras. Instead of the exotic injected V10 Ford with 605hp, the movie cars have carbureted Roush "crate" engines backed-up by C4's.

No doubt about it - that new "Cobra" roadster is ugly - I'm not even gonna ask Eddie if he made any "extra" splashes of the body. I suppose however, that the younger "Ricer" crowd probably loves it - to me, it looks like a Cobra that OD'd on Botox.

Batman you were right.

Cant say I hate the shape, definitely like the motor. Loved watching the "how we built the thing" DVD.

Wouldnt say no to one if Ford asked me to take it for ride.

Leeroys Cobra is going to look great in those colours.

Phil (cause I got a new clutch)

Will miss skid pan day now making sure Iam ready for the Nostalgia Drags on 18th June. Tidying up a few things and fabricating a cold air intake over the radiator. Also fitted front sway bar , remote filter, cooler and accusump.

Hope to have bigger brakes all round by then also.

No.1 wife is going to kill me

Do you believe this weather. Perfect Cobra driving weather. At least until the sun goes down.

Phil

Hi Phil,
what sort of brakes were you thinking to run on the rear? Did they replace the clutch free of charge? Did you buy the same clutch? or as Boxhead asked, what clutch did you end up using and why that one?

Regards.

Gotta say I don't mind the look of the new Cobra. Perhaps a tiny bit too bulbous but overall good.
I would much prefer the Series 1 though. That's my next car. Hey, $22million in Powerball tomorrow, it could happen.

And I know you're not really concerned about the motor & tranny in a smash up car - coz why would you trash a beaut donk like the real ones have?
I didn't think many ricers went for V8s let alone V10s.
Cheers

Boxhead, Mando,

yes went for textralia, it comes with flywheel, slave cylinder, clutch plate and pressure plate plus ARP bolts for flywheel and clutch. Not cheap at $1600 but thats less than I paid CAPA for the SPEC unit and I get a lot more bits with textralia.

There is a fair bit of info on the Australian LSI site about the textralia and all seems positive.

Comes with three month money back guarantee.

Guys at CAPA didn't want to help at all. No more bussiness for them.
Mando,
The Front Brakes will be Corvete rotors 330mm X28 and rears are also 330 X28. The rears are same disc as FPV upgrade so just slide on. Calipers will be Brembo cause there Red and the price was right due to bulk buying by the Race Brakes guy.AP calipers may get a lookin in as they have external plumbing where as the Brembos are internally plumbed .All up price fitted is about $5K. Could take a while to save for that lot.

The Wilwoods I have on the front seem to do a good job but are tecnically illegal as they dont have dust seals. Also not happy with mounting which is a piece of 5mm plate that flexes too much causing the pads to wear at a taper ,which is understandable.

Phil

Phil,
how do you know the front discs flex? Can you feel some sort of vibration? Do you think the 5mm plate could have been thicker? Why do the pads wear at a taper? I dont get that one.

Regards.

Mando,

The discs are not an issue. Its the 5mm plate that I am concerned with. Yes I think this plate should be thicker. It would be possible to machine up a thicker plate and I may still do that.

Phil
