Yep good time of year, cooling down without getting cold.
Depending on what you want to see or do but the second weekend of June is Finke desert race time, great to see.
It is normaly getting cold by June.
We have hit a real cold patch, I have had the fireplace going since Saturday arvo, still going now.

Let's keep the 'Thread" alive over the next few months and see what interest is there for a run.

Is the Finke desert race one that is good viewing for spectators. Have you been to one. I did notice your company buggy!!

The Finke race is both a race for buggies and motorbikes.
They race from Alice Springs to Finke then back again, following the old train line.
The race distance is approx 245kls each way.
They race south to Finke on Sunday and head home on Monday.
There are sections of the track where the class 1 open cars get over 220 kph.
I have seen the race 3 times now and loved it every time, The past 2 years I have camped approx 95 kls south from the start line along a section that is called the road section (high speed)
They have changed the track for next years race as CAMS have said the road section can no longer be used for racing - it must be kept open for emergency vehicles.
You do need a 4x4 to get to most of the track apart from start finish area, I havent been to the new start finish area yet but I have been told it is good viewing.
You could easily drive a Cobra to the start area.

Boxhead

Thanks mate. Yes will keep the 'Thread" alive and maybe see if we can get a few Cobras up there for the race weekend, or around that time for better weather.

I'll get the map out later and have a look at distances etc.

I did have a plan to take the Cobra to the states but insurance cover etc. was getting to hard so this may be an alternative for a few days away with other Cobraphiles.

This might get a few of you motivated...

Thought this may interest the petrol heads here, seems a few blokes decided to go for a blat through the NT.

See the story here - you may have to log on to see some of the shots.

I have quite a few pictures from that weekend trip.
The road to Glen Helen is a great driving road and there is a nice watering hole at the end of it.
Now I gotta make sure my car is ready for the time when you all come out to visit.
