Seats, seats, all about seats....

Hi all, just wanted to pick your brains about cobra seating. I have a 1998 DRB where the seat is hard-mounted to the frame (i'm guessing here?) Is there a company that does a movable rail mount for seats that will fit in a cobra? Also I drove a Holden Astra Convertible once and ever since I did I have been tossing around the idea of heated seats. They were great on a cold winters night with the top down, and would love to put them in the cobra. Any ideas of who would do a mod like this,...

G'day FF
I have a 1998 DRB with the same type seats (not registered yet) and the Engineer has said because more than one person may drive it, the seats have to be adjustable. I am currently looking for some sliders to bolt to the bottom of the seats. Take a wander through some wrecking yards and look at the slide rails, there must be something amongst all the little cars that will suit. If I find something suitable soon I will let you know. My son has a set he took off some seats that he bought for his 4x4 that look like they will fit, but he has to remember to drop them off, which could take a while.

I had my seats made by Auto Concepts (SAAS) in Mulgrave VIC and I got runners for them so they are adjustable. They are easy to fit to the base of your seats and only cost about $70 set.

Dave, runners are pretty easy to fit. Had the same seats as yours in our DRB and we used Van seat sliders. They are generally very slim mounting. A Search of the wreckers will find them for a good price. Make sure though that they are double locking, ie, the lever engages lock on both left & right sliders. Some sliders only lock one side and are not as strong.

That's not going to be the problem.

Being 1998 vintage, I'm guessing you don't have a dropped floor DRB. Does your floor kick up where the seat mounts, or is the floor completely flat from front where your feet are, right to the back where the seat is?

If you have standard floor(not dropped), I expect any sliders will make the seating position too high. If you have a dropped floor, then ignore my ramblings as you will have plenty of room for sliders.

With our DRB will cut and welded recesses where the sliders were. The seat height was only a couple of mm above the remaining floor so that it would slide back and forth. Only raising the seat a mm didn't impact seating height. And we could still fit catalytic converters under the seats as we didn't have the floor completely dropped.

I've always been bemused that in the old days, most Cobra's never had sliding seats and they were engineered fine.

Hey Craig, thanks for the info. I have the standard floor so might have to give the rails a miss. The seating position is fine for me but the wife says she can't reach the pedals. maybe this is a sign from above that she's not s'posed to drive it. Ok, so has anyone got any ideas on the seat heating? Are there any heat pads, etc that can be added to the padding of the seat before upholstering?

There's enough heat going on in the cockpit to worry about seat heaters

Rebel1, you are a champion! Been looking for someting like that on the internet for ages (but all I can find is porn.....?) I don't know about you guys but I think my cockpit must be a little too well insulated because I get no heat at all.

Maybe your just not driving it hard enough.

I know that on the track you have no problems getting heat soak into the cockpit.

Take no notice of PCC mate. He's an English chappy (you know...a pom) and anything over 10 degrees is hot to him.

Ohhh...I just reread Uncle Petes post....the heat is goin ON in the cockpit...hmmmmm Pete, I know your lady likes riding in the cobra and you've got an auto havn't ya. My first wife doesn't like riding in cobras so I've got a manual.
