Default Chassis Paint Spec

I hope to be painting my chassis in a month or so and would like to use a product which will last, so POR-15 is in the frame.

Does anyone have advice on the standard of prep required to achieve good adhesion? This is what the POR-15 site says:

SURFACE PREPARATION: Rusted surfaces are best; seasoned metal and sandblasted surfaces are also good.

Are there any good places in Sydney to get it blasted? - I have contacted Advanced Sandblasting in Brookvale but they dont seem to be interested/efficient.

Are there any similar/better products to POR-15? - I have used Chassiscote by the same company already and am impressed.

Regards
Martin

Blasting - try different places that do monuments (Grave Stones).

Martin

I used the three coat system to tart up a new old chassis I am building.

Essentially some surface rust that I fairly rudely removed and then used the two prep coatings then the paint. Brushed un and it floats to self level and looks great on an even surface. Where I just removed troubled patches and recoated the joins look crap but I too am planning to sandblast the whole chassis later and recoat.

If the chassis is clean of grease etc after blasting I would just use the acid etch and coat.

I highly recommend the product after just this one use myself!

Cheers

Steve

Martin,

I used Advanced Sandblasting in Brookvale when I reconditioned the Jag front end, and they were great. Classic Revival used them to do his Chassis, as I saw a couple of untouched ones in the workshop waiting to be blasted and finished.

I found them really good and helpful. Did you chat to them over the phone or drop in ? I dropped in (as I live around the corner), and they were happy to chat and very helpful.

Cheers
