Default Oil's aint Oil's Sol

Had some serious oil temp's (140oC) going around Wakefield at the nationals which got me thinking about my choice of oil and was interested to hear what people recommend. I used Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 but have found after a hot run once engine cools and is restarted quite a bit of smoke is sent out exhaust but with no hot runs on cold restarts there is no smoke at all. Could this be oil choice?

ps/ standard GM sump & no oil cooler fitted.
("GM" will get some responses)

Default Looking at the wrong thing.

Hey Leigh,
You have it wrong, keep the oil and change the engine.

Altho 140c (284f) is hotter than I'd like to see, I don't think it is too hot--your smoke probably result of hot engine, excessive manifold vacume from backing down as you came off track and oil down the valve guides as motor cooled off

I have seen several of the LS engines come thru our shop that had crushed skirts, broken ring lands and valve guide clearance uo to .006 inch. All the engines with these symphons smoked

Jerry
