Default Red cars do go faster

Hey Plums, it must be the season for painting Cobras in Western Australia.

Here are some pictures of my body taken this morning, the colour is PPG Hellfire Red with White Pearl stripes. It is even brighter in real life.

Ross,

I have been looking for a red and this one is great. Did they do anything special, other then base and clearcoat, to give it that glow?

I have done extensive research on this question, the data is convincing, and you are correct Red is WAY faster

Beautiful car, keep the pics coming!

I've heard about 5 mph faster. Our red Bonneville car went 20mph faster, though. Anyway, that's why they call it "arrest me red", so I've found that's it's best to drive my red cars on the street a little slower than my white and green ones. The "man" does seem to focus on red.

Nice color choice! Yeah, red is always good for a couple more mph (kph?) and few long stares. Mr. Policeman also notices more.

Now that looks HOT!!!

It's only going to get better once you start bolting up wheels and exterior body fittings...can't wait.

Hi Easystep,

This is the PPG colour swatch, the colour was put on top of ordinary grey primer.

Looks great Ross.

Of course it will be faster....it's both an RMC and is FORD powered.

Great combination...What primer is that Polyester, urethane, or epoxy?.

Cheers
Les

Ross,
You have a very pretty car, love the colour.
Have you set up the stripes as per the ERA specs?

I have a friend that is a cop and he has told me, they routinely pull over red cars more often. Just standing still, they appear to be breaking the sound barrier! You couldn't be more RIGHT! Red cars are faster!!!

Hi Gav,

Yes the stripes match the ERA spec, in fact I just sent the spray painter the PDF that I downloaded from the ERA site.
I actually found out about tapered stripres and the ERA documrnt from a discussion on this forum a few months ago.....thanks to everyone who contributed !!

Cheers

Ross

Ross:
Great job on the red and, yes, they do go faster. Go to page 2 in my gallery and you'll see the paint progression photos of my ERA going from primer to Ford Red Fire.
When you get a chance look at the difference in depth of color on your car in the sunlight through polarized sunglasses. Makes my red look another 6" deeper.
Good Job, Great Color.

Hi Ross,

The paint looks great. Unfortunately its hard to appreciate the pearl on the white stripes in a photo.

I am considering pearl white stripes for my car too. If its not to bold can I ask how much extra pearl stripes cost over standard white stripes?

Well all pearl stripes are two layers. White Base, then pearl/mica mix, then of course clear. So you would have to factor in extra labour, extra cost of paint would be neglible for stripes.

Stripes on my GT40 are white pearl and I'm stoked with the result. With modern white pearls, you don't have to have that ivory resultant colour any longer, you can get very crisp pure pearls. Just be careful with number of pearl coats, the more you put on, the more discoloured it will get. I got 3 coats of pearl put on the white base...perfect.
