Default Progress pics - body in polyester

G'day All,
Painter is doing a great job. Finished all repairs and has sprayed polyester. The engine bay is next while the poly hardens. Then the body will be blocked back and painted in primer.

Getting closer.......

Looks good Al, Making some excellent progress.

I'm keen to see what those tail lights are going to look like when fitted.

Cheers

Leeroy,

The Lamps are from Hella

http://db.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catal...w&flmaint=2743

They are the same diameter as the original Lucas lamps but they are much flatter. They only sit proud of the body by about 10mm or so. They are semi frenched for my application and I have used a bracket behind the lamp to secure it. (same as instruments on the dash).

Two things I never liked about the original Cobra were the later Lucas rear lamps (The L542's were much prettier I think - they're the rectangle lights) which, from what I read, were only used (a parts bin special) because they no longer had L542's available;

and halibrand wheels.

Colour is from Lotus called Storm Titanium. It's a medium metallic grey with a gold pearl so it has a warm glow in the sun. Stripes will be black gloss with pin stripes on the outside of the main stripes.

I reckon they'll look good once the body is painted. Pitty they don't have a chrome surround. Although it wouldn't be too hard to machine some aluminium rings up to go over the black surround.

Cheers

I'm using the Lucas L691 which were the same as used on the Austin Healey. I reckon they better than the L594 which I've seen on a couple of cars.

L691

L594

Cheers

I reckon those Hella lights will look great, it's good to see something different! This is what I love about these cars, you can do anything you like because you're building your own car...

I agree, the L691's are a smart light.

Here's a L542 for reference:

I don't think the lack of a chrome surround will matter for me b/c of the paint. I've chosen. Plenty other shiny bits on the car.

For me, the traditional lights on a cobra look like 4 warts on a really nice looking bum!
