No disasters this time
Last December I was desperate to do the Big Three Sydney roads in one day in the new cobra. A ruptured fuel line stopped me in my tracks half way up the Pacific Highway. Towed home So this year the plan was to do the Old Pacific Highway, Central Mangrove to Broke, Putty Road to Windsor then the Bell's Line of Road to Bell and home to Linden from there. 500km later, covered in bugs and stiff as, I climbed out of the cobra. New Avids behaved very well. Car pulled like a train and there was no traffic
At one point on the Putty road I decided to wind it out. I got up to 130 and decided it wasn't worth loss of licence. Slowing to legal speed, I round the next corner to see Mr Plod revenue raising on this quiet country road
It's a great loop and a great blast in a cobra. Plenty of tight stuff to test your nerve.
Do it on a Saturday morning. Everyone else is at the shops
Richard
PS Sorry you couldn't make it Stef

Ar, the Old pacific Hwy. Its been a happy hunting ground for the revenue raisers for years. They get very crafty as well.
Luckily they are more concerned with the weekend warriors and temporary Australians on the sport bikes.

Okay, I'll bite, who is Mr. Plod ??? And, what are New Avids? The trains out here travel about 65 mph, have five engines, and 105 cars. John

A quick image search on Google resulted in this pic of Mr Plod:
I believe the Avids are the donut shaped rubber thingies on the 4 corners of Richards car.
Cheers

Richard - 130.... you have the original MPH Speedo - Right
I had a very interesting local drive here on Saturday. A guy I know here just bought the new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT. We took it for a blast up to the Great Wall. I drove from the Great Wall at Badaling to his home in downtown Beijing.
A very nice GT and aside from overcooking the brakes on the way down the mountains, great fun. But... All that being said, I would have swapped it in a second for a cruise in my Cobra
Minus 6 here today, I envy you all baking in the Southern sun.

No Cam.
Only 130km/h. On a previous trip along the Putty Road, an attempt at a personal land speed record was thwarted by the appearance of a deer. The best parts of the loop are all the 35-65km/h posted corners. Just about all the Old Pacific Hwy is posted 60km/h. The fun parts are beyond the OPH, south of Broke and Wollombi. Too busy to check the speedo in those places!

Avids are a nice tyre, Cameron. Quiet, grippy and cheap!
Now what can I put on the 17's after Winton? I'm sure the Michelins will be trashed by then!

Richard,
Got done on the Putty Road back in the 80's for 130 kph in a Ford Laser. My then girlfriend (now first (and only)wife) worked at Narrabri as a teacher and I use to do the Putty Road twice a month at night ( eyesight much better then) . The Putty road is a great Road.....count me in if you plan another Big Three.
Regards,
Phil
