Aussie Mike,

That video is superb. The grin on your face says it all, as someone already pointed out. I have that grin already and I have only just ordered my kit!!!
I can't wait...

Gawd ..... having to listen to a Ls1 first up in the morning is bad enough but also having to look at that cheezy grin really ruined my morning.

Congrats Mike, sounds great

Sorry, can't hang around posting on the forum at the moment. I've got to run back out to the shed and fire it up again.

I hope this time you noticed how asthmatic it sounds.

Like there are way too many baffles in the mufflers and way too much steel wool stuffed into the pipes.

Or are you saying this is the normal sound an LSx makes?

Huge huge milestone though Mike....I'm gonna ring ya missus and tell her to buy ya a 200Ltr drum of unleaded for chrissy.

Tis Ok Mate...no need to thank me .

Yep, that's the under body system talkin'

It registers 94dB at 3500RPM but I've still got to bolt the tail pipe section on with it's extra muffler. It should get down to 90dB OK but there's a heap of induction noise at the front. It'll be interesting to see what hapens on the drive by noise test.

You can also hear the fuel pumps over it all too.

I can't wait to have this thing with the side pipes on but I'm going to have to control myself and knuckle down for rego.

Cheers

In addition to the "sucking sound" of the engine, the length of your intake pipe may be generating harmonics at a frequency audible to humans (that means you Mike ).

You could try a few things:

To kill the induction noise a bit, wrap some fabric around your filter and panduit strap it on (it won't do 9 second quarters but it won't matter for rego). Do the same with your intake pipe but wrap it with foam instead.

Secondly, you could make up a short intake pipe and still wrap the filter.

I think I might be anoying the neighbours already.

I fitted a big red starter button to the dash last night as the ignition key is fairly tight to get to (and the button looks cool). It's been getting a work out (just testing it, honest). I've must have been firing it up so much lately that I've run the battery flat and have had to put it on charge.

Cheers

What button did you use Mike?

I am thinking of doing something similar.

Hi Ben,

I had a regular off the shelf starter button with a rubber cover. I think it was a Narva brand. It looked good initially after I'd polished up the metal surround but it dulled very quickly (zinc I think).

I was looking at my Milling machine and the switch gear I used when I re wired it. They are industrial push button switches and have a nice feel to them. The button pad is about 24mm in diameter and has a shroud around it so you don't inadvertently press it when you bump it. They are a modular switch which has a backing mount and button part that clip together and the contacter part clips onto the back of it.

I bought it from Midendorps for about $26. They have a variety of colours for the button and even have iluminated ones.

I've got it wired in through a relay so it won't turn over unless the ignition key is in the run position. The original start position on the key still works as well.

Cheers

Hey there Beejay, I have been watching auctions from this guy http://cgi.ebay.com.au/START-BUTTON-...QQcmdZViewItem and have noticed he is now offering 3 for the price of 2.
If there is a 3rd person who wants one of these I will get them and we can arrange the money side when they arrive.

Let me know what you think?

I bought the three for two last night. If you (David & Ben) are happy with that. I'll let you know when they arrive and you can let me know your postal addresses.

Are you both OK with that?

Philip

Mike,

Really glad to hear the Cobra has fired up. Bet you found that inspirational and now have Shelby Fest firmly in your sights for its track debut

Phil,

That was a great deal you did on the starter button.

Phil
