Cameron spanked us all and ran the fastest time of the day. He ran a 1.40 which was extremely quick. He's a very tallented driver.
It was a great day with perfect weather. There were no accedents but unfortunately a lot of breakages.
I think every one is pushing so hard that failures ar going to be more common. Our own Leeroy threw a rod out the side of the block ending his fun on the friday practice. This was very sad and Leigh has my deepest sympathies on the demise of his engine. But we should just look at as an oportunity to build a new bullet proof big cube motor.
The Mizzis went out on saturday morning with a broken diff. It was a real shame as they were both going very quick and deffinitly been in the running for a trophy.
There were several other broken engines and another broken diff. Wasp and Snaken were 2 I saw with engines troubles.
I had the best fun myself. The car went well on its first real drive with only a few minor issues. A dodgy circuit breaker kept killing the engine intermittently. The vibration above 5K rpm kept tripping it. Thanks Gav for the help sorting It out. I also had tyre rub isues but some spacers loaned by the CTC guys got that under control. A big thank you to Garrett for all your help and support through the day.
Cheers

Jesus....I remember Leigh at the nationals a bit worried about oil temps, and actually said something like an engine rebuild would be fun....Be careful what you wish for
Very sorry to hear about broken cars....but at least no broken people
Well done cameron by the sounds of things...
What was the vibration issue Mike or still working on it?
Cheers

The vibration wasn't really a problem and was probably normal for turning 6k rpm. The problem was the crappy circuit breaker. Ill have a talk to Phil N an ask what his experience is with vibration. Might be valve float from the stock valve springs.
Cheers

Hi Mike if you are going to 6000rpm with stock springs in a LS1 it would be valve float for sure had the same problem with my GTS.
Cheers Greg

Yes I'd be careful Mike, from memory your limiter is set to 7k so you'd better just take it easy on the stock springs... How is that new manifold going???
Very sorry to hear about the demise of Leeroy's engine, was it a missed downchange or oil pressure related???
Hope every one else is having fun over there.......

Sorry to hear the news on Leeroy,
If your looking for another stock LS1 block let me know.
But as Mike has said, this might be just the excuse to go for the big rebuild.

Sad news for Leigh but why do I get the feeling an LSx block is in the works.
Sorry to hear about all the other folks with mechanical problems but that's racing. Allows us to find all the weaknesses.
As long as no one is hurt makes it a great weekend. Congrats to the organisers. You excelled again.

buggered
Had a great time at Shelby Fest,
It was unfortunate that the diff went as the rest of the car felt great and I was looking forward to as many laps as I could to bring the times down.
I think I got about 3 laps on friday and 5 on saturday.
Well done Cameron, you are the master excellent driving.
Leigh, sorry to see that happen even if it an LS1.
Mike, you champion , Yeah I will take it slow, I hope I done hold you up , that would be the absolute best first drive of a new car I have ever seen. 1.47 fastest lap
Peter, 1st place you looked very pleased with yourself, well deserved.
The Victorians, Tony, Jason thanks for having us. It was a very relaxed atmostphere that was great fun, well done.
I have no pics but there were many cameras so I too look forward to the pics.

Just arrived into Sydney... What a lovely drive with some nice heavy showers on the way through
Clearly I had a great weekend. Well organised, great crowd and action packed. Thanks Jason, Tony all sponsors and the Vic Cobra Club.
The failures on the weekend were sad to see, but I note that most who suffered were already on the 'make it better next time' track
I look forward to catching up with a few of you on Tuesday night, thanks Phil.
As for the true heritage of car and Driver.
Driver born in Vic, Lived elsewhere for last 12 years, now residing in China
Car, born in South Africa, part assembled in Vic and registered in Qld with a US engine, whereabouts, variable
I'll leave that to someone smarter to work out

I just got home and unloaded the car, parked it in the workshop and slid the door shut. Tuck my daughter into bed and then have a hot shower and a bit of a relax and read the forum before hitting the sack.
I'm tired and a little sun burnt but very happy. My face hurts from grinning all week end. What a great event. Thanks to all the organisers for 2 days of the best fun you can have with your clothes on.
It was excellent to catch up with so many fellow enthusiastst and a real bonus to meet several of the forum members I haven't met before.

Thanks Phil, Well I honestly didn't know how the car would run. I hoped it would perform OK but I could hardly be smack talking and saying I was gona kick butt or anything like that. I could have easily ended up looking like an idiot.
Great pics Jamie. Nice to chat with you and your Dad too
Cheers
