Now Aussie Mike is nearly finished his car, so he should be good for a few small jobs at home. Louis Vitton and Aussie Mike suitcases in the boot..

Tenrocca 05-27-2007 12:22 AM

Hey Darrell, Im planning just black carpet, but where the stripes are have the carpet just turned on the grain - subtle. I did the work myself - Im no expert though, just more time then money! haha. Shaun made the battery box - top work as usual.

I should pop over and see your car now shes arrived.

Cheers.

I've seen a couple of classic revival boots and I am very curious about the seatbelt mount set up and adr aproval as mine had to be built like a leg of the sydney harbour bridge. What's the story ?

Tenrocca 05-27-2007 03:46 PM

AS far as I know no engineer has had an issue with the seat belt mount. A lot of people have beefed it up a bit with a sheer plate. I know of one CR crash and and the driver survived....so thats good enough for me. haha :)

Very nice work Andrew.

How did you end up doing the bends and curves?

It turned out so good you will have to do the engine bay.

Ben

Tenrocca 05-27-2007 04:35 PM

Thanks Ben - I made a bending brake a while back from some plans I found on the net:

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...G_6769_5_1.JPG

It does an OK job on 1.2mm aluminium but I wouldnt want to go much thicker. The large curve I just bent around a fence post till it was about right! I made up lots of cardboard templates first though.
The engine bay is next.

Nice work Andrew.
Love the pollished stripes in the boot:cool:

I've been bust doing similar treatment in the engine bay along the fire wall. Still got a bit more elbow grease to put in to finish it off, but its getting there:)

BTW, do you have a sketch or drawings of the battery box. I might have to get Shaun to make me one as well:D

Tenrocca 05-27-2007 06:31 PM

Nice work Luke - Love the look of aluminium in the engine bay.

I made up a cardboard mock up of the battery box for Shaun, but I stuffed up a bit. I had it tucked nicely under the seat belt mount, but then realised (once I had cut the hole in the boot floor) that although it looked great, once the battery was in I actually couldnt lift the lid off over the battery (Number one in the dumbest things Ive done on my car so far) So I moved it further back (and patched the hole), but then it fouled wth the chassis cross member, so had to have Shaun cut the bottom off the bottom section and make it a bit shorter - Ill measure up tonight the final dimensions - I plan on using an Optima battery (like many) so sized it accordingly (I hope!)

Luke Gillett 05-27-2007 07:06 PM

Thanks Andrew,
I've actually used stainless in the engine bay. I wanted something a little more hard wearing in the engine bay and I got the sheet of stainless at a price a couldn't refuse;)

Like you mentioned, I also made extensive use of cardboard to make up templates and then took these down to my local sheetmetal place for cutting/welding etc.

shaun mellish 05-28-2007 03:25 AM

nice andrew good to see it finished, different approach which is always good, looks better than i imagined. box and stripes look great.

Aussie Mike 05-28-2007 07:02 AM

Very impresive work Andrew. That boot looks terific and a nice original touch with the polished stripes.

I'm also impressed with your panels to block off the area around the tail lights. It bugs me that the backs of the light fittings and wiring is exposed on mine. I thought about making up some covers but your idea looks great.

Your folder looks like a handy tool as well. I might have to look at making one of them. You cant have too many tools.

Cheers
