Perhaps he just can't stop driving it I'm guessing he'd need some good thermals though.....

Well the date has come and gone and I wish I had good news but the Cobra is still sitting in my shed. I beavered away on it but with work and family commitments I didn't get as much work done as I'd hoped. It's amazing how much time those fiddly little last minute jobs take.

Rather than stress about it I've moved my inspection back a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the words of support but hopefully I'll have a result in 2 weeks.

Cheers

Got to keep you all in suspense

It's been 5 years, another 2 weeks isn't going to matter and it's not like there's any prime cobra driving weather at the moment.

Rebuilding is something I'm trying to avoid. Rather than bodgy things up to get through I'm trying to make things work for when it's got it's plates on too.

The fiddly jobs seem to take the longest. One anoying thing is the Barina indicator stalk hits on the bodywork when you try and use the indicators with high beam on. It's a common CR problem which I've probably made worse by raising my column for more leg room. The Engineer may or may not have picked me up on it but I've fixed it now.

Cheers

Mike I had the same problem, I moved my column over 50mm and then reshaped the door area to give more clearance.

Does it matter? I wouldn't have thought you would need to indicate with your hi beam on unless your planning on Bathurst 24hr and want to give the other racers the heads up on which way you intend on taking the next corner

Well today was the day.

Loaded the Cobra up on the trailer this morning and towed it over to the engineers workshop.

Everything went well. The weather held out and even managed a little bit of sun which made the brake tests more enjoyable. The car blitzed the brake tests, noise tests and emissions test. I came away with only a small list of easy to fix stuff requred to complete the report. I should have them all sorted this week.

All going well I should have my VIN in a few weeks and plates on the car in August.

I think I'll actually be able to sleep well tonight.

Cheers

Are you suggesting it was a different car to the one in my shed?

No pics unfortunately as I forgot to grab my camera on the way out. I'll be snapping a few as the engineer wanted some pics of the stuff I have to fix.

I'll try to take a few pics sometime this week and put them up on the forum.

Surprisingly little changed from the Shelbyfest race track trim. The headers and sidepipes were replaced with the under body system and the suspesion wound up to give me enough ground clearance. The aero screen stayed on and I bolted on 2x raydot mirrors. I've also changed the Motolita wood rimmed wheel for a leather bound SAAS wheel.

Cheers

Mike

You lucky beggar well done. Was it Bernie that tested your car out?

What sort of things did they pick up on and what do you have to fix? What paperwork did they request?

I'm hoping to recreate your cheesy video grin this weekend if all holds true and my sparky can gets the arcs into the puter and to the plugs.

I'm just wondering how far down my local back streets I can push the test drive!!

Cheers

Good stuff Mike, I remember the day mine had it's last engineering check, drizzly July Canberra day, everything passed, so I drove the long way home on trade plates for an hour or so in the rain.

The list was all minor stuff.

I had the wrong indicator lenses on the front blinkers. I used the clear lenses with yellow LED bulbs. The E marking on the clear lenses was for parkers and needed to be indicators. I happen to have a spare set of yellow lenses at home so that's an easy fix.

The flasher can for the indicators needs to be load sensitive so that if a bulb blows they flash faster or just stay on. I've got a load sensitive can at home too.

I forgot to fit my dash pad and a pad for the steering wheel center.

After we had got back from the braking tests the suspension had sagged a bit so I didn't quite have enough ground clearance under the exhaust. A couple more turns on the coil over collars will fix that.

That was about it.

The important doccuments you will need are the torsion and beaming results from your chassis manufacturer along with the bump steer figures. The reciept for your engine and the reciept for your chassis/body.

I think the gods were smiling on me yesterday because it didn't rain till I had the cobra unloaded and back in the shed and the trailer stored away in the back yard.

No plans for breaking my motor yet. it will get pulled out and a few reliability mods done to it befor the Nationals. I've got some ARP rod bolts, a ported LS6 oil pump and an LS2 Corvette sump to go on it. Theres also a set of good valve springs and retainers for up top. These minor mods should let it survive some sustained high RPM blasts down the straights.

Cheers
