Merv, the LS2 was supplied to HSV for their range, whereas the L76 is the engine supplied to Holden for the SS Commodore. Both are Euro 3 emissions compliant. They're different in that the displacement on demand (DoD) is working for the LS2, but with the L76 some of the DoD hardware is there but it's not enabled. I believe they have different heads (better flowing on the L76?) but the L76 has a small cam and makes less power out of the box. Both engines respond terrifically to a chip/cam/exhaust package and the L76 is a thousand or so $$$ cheaper. They also have different computers and I'm sure there's some other details that I've overlooked...

L76 has the big rectangular intake ports. When I was speaking to PNeall this morning I described them as, "flowing like a mongrel".

In the US, people are putting these L92 heads (same as L76) with the Aussie L76 intake manifold onto LS2's. In fact onto any LS* engine with a 4 inch or bigger bore.

If you change the cam in both an LS2 and an L76, the L76 will make more power and torque everywhere than the LS2.

Is that purely because of the better flowing heads on the L76 or do other factors contribute?

Sambo,
I have ordered my engine from a local mechanic also a cobra owner, was same price as ordering anywhere else and he will give hands on support if I gets to head scratchin . I don't anticipate too much trouble as I repair locomotives for a living, these little engines should be easy.

Lionel

Better heads and matching intake make the difference...
