Welcome T.L. If you come to this week's Vic Club meeting you will be able to meet a few of the members and I believe there's a drag day at Heathcote this weekend, so you might see a few cars there. You don't need to have a running Cobra to attend monthly meetings or indeed any of the club events.

My Harrison rolling chassis arrives next week and I'd be happy to show you how it looks straight from the shop.

In a few months once the weather picks up there's bound to be plenty more opportunities to see cars on the road or at meetings. I'm sure a few more guys here will extend you an invite to check out their sheds too.

Gawd, not another Victorian wanting to build a dark side cobra!.

Breeding like bluddy rabbits they are.

Now...here is my take on the whole deal. Harrison or G-Force.

Why?.....Harrison for fantastic service and a well shaped body and an excellent finished product.....G-Force for quality of body molding ( read cheaper to paint) and use of the Jag rear end.

RMC for excellent street manners ( a bit heavy for track), very strong chassis but poor body mold ( expensive to paint) and uses Jag rear end.

I have a soft spot for the Jag rear but I'm an elder statesman and a bit of a traditionalst.

Engine choice: Very hard to beat the Holden offerings for ease of fitment and cost/performance. Current 6Ltrs Gen4 offerings up to 300rwKw with cam, tune and cold air. Soon to be a 6.2 Ltr big brother of the L76 will offer much higher than 300rwKw. No problems getting the Gen4 accepted.

Just my opinion. I'm sure others will offer theirs.

Agree with Rebel1.

But performance wise, you can't go past the modern rear-ends especially something like Skyline rear with it's 300mm vented rotors & 2 piston calipers. Just a fantastic unit all round and great value for money. But just not a lot of rear wheel dish on a Cobra.

Default RMC & Harrison

Hey TL,


I have a 1988 RMC (recently rebuilt thanks to too much right foot and not enough talent ) great looking car ( I used the G-FORCE body),
They are easy to drive and are one of the better older looking kits (IMO).

I have just taken delivery of a Harrison Daytona (L76/6 Speed).
If I was to build a Cobra it would most likely be a Harrison!!!

If you want to look at a number of kits speak to Doug Pearce in Lilydale (9739 4222) he has a few of every kit in differing stages of build on site for you to look at. He also has a very UGLY looking Daytona that he is converting into Jennifer Hawkins

Come along to the meeting this Thursday if you can.

Craig,

So the width of the rear wheel is reduced a little is it?. Can you still run 9 1/2 -10" on there or is that pushing it with clearances for the red tape people?.

Sorry, should have explained it better. It's just got to do with how deep the wheel looks. How much rim is sticking out in front of the wheel centre and how much is sticking in. Nothing to do with width. So traditional Cobra look is to have lots of rim sticking outside, with Skyline rear you have what a call a medium amount of rim sticking out, with say a Classic Revival you have very little outside rim. With modern interpretation of Cobras these days, deep dish rims seem to have gone the way of the dodo anyway.

With Harrison you will breeze in 9 1/2 - 10". There have been a few Harrisons fitted with 12 1/2" rims on the rear. From measurements we took from our Harrison with Skyline rear, something like 315/35/17 was the widest tyre we could fit without modification, which is wider than most people want.

This is a Harrison built recently with 335/35/17 tyres.



And has stroked & supercharged LS1(or LS???).

Craig, with a bit of poking around I found some other pics of that blue monster... twin NOS bottles and one very unique interior! Is there a link to the member gallery on the QLD site? I couldn't find it. Which kit is it based on?

Rim width isn't a problem for the modern double wishbone rear ends. It's just you have to run the rear suspension at it's full width as they can prove difficult to narrow. This means you end up with not a lot of dish on the rear wheels or even a positive offset where there's more rim on the inside than the outside.

I wasn't so keen on the look at first but it's grown on me. My rear rims are 11" wide and the tyres are 315/35/17 but it doesn't look like it because there's not a lot of dish on the rear rims.

I think this is the best pic I have to illustrate it. The dish on the rear wheels is the same as the front.

I believe I have seen the car that Craig has posted and it is a beast supercharged and nitros.
What I can't understand is how is it going to pass engineering. The supercharger and nos bottles are non to subtle and the guys at the pits would be able to spot them easily.
Craig do you have any side shots of the car. When I saw it in the upholsterers my camera was flat. It appeared to have a skyline diff which (as you state) means a normal Harrison can fit those monster rear wheels.

This is the "traditional" jag rear end in an RMC with shortened driveshafts to allow for dished wheels



These are australian produced 5 stud Halibrand replica wheels for those of us can't afford the real thing. (I am envious of your wheels Plums)
