Default Insurance Premiums

I am with Shannons and noticed a 16% hike on my annual premium.

Called them and they couldn't explain why and proceeded to reduce the premium 20% less than my current rate (pre 16% hike).

Have introduced a restricted mileage, but that suits my usage and they said they don't check the speedo reading anyway.

New rate is $470 a year, protected no claims, no theft excess etc etc

Moral - Check your premium increases - worth the comparison.

Default That's a great price.

PCC,

That's a great price Pete , What's your car Insured for, comprehensively?

My car is in the construction stage. I contacted Shannons yesterday and they quoted me $295 for a 'Laid Up Policy' to cover it for $30K at the moment while it was being built. As the build progresses, so does the premium.

I also asked them for a quote on $80K, which is what I reckon the car will owe me when it is finally registered and they came up with this magical figure of $906. I thought this was exceptionally high considering that this premium was for 'restricted useage'

I thought your $470 a year was more the figure I was looking for.

I'm 63 in October and have a clear driving record over 46 years. I have my family car, house and contents insured with GIO. Does it make that much difference if you haven't got anything else insured with Shannons?

Do you have any other insurance policies with them?

Baz,

It must be on the market value.

Mine is valued at $57,000 replacement.

No I haven't got anything else with them.

I think they were pretty embarrased when I told them of the hike and he spent some time before giving me the revised figure.
