Default L76 on Ebay

Anyone chasing an L76 6 litre chev crate motor as in the VZ SS commodore. See attached link

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VZ-L76-6LITRE...QQcmdZViewItem

$4500 buy now, about $2000 than what Rebel1 and I paid

regards

Mick

Well spotted Mick. They're saying retail is $13,000 which is rubbish. Several places selling the whole shooting match, water pump to flywheel with all looms, accessories, belts, pulleys, including engine mounts and a remap for under $11,000 inc GST.

I've asked the seller for a proper list of what's being sold, as "crate motor" doesn't really tell us much. I also had a look at their feedback and it seems they sell lots of HSV jackets, headlight protectors and the occasional muffler. All of a sudden they're trying to move a "$13,000" engine.

Edit: I guess that's still $2000 below the price from WASP, I'd just be careful with regards to warranty.

That's a real bargain!!!! If I hadn't just wasted money on a bloody hoist I'd be right in there.....

I think I'd take the Cash On Pick-up option though!!!

Default GM Crate Motor

SAMBO,

GM crate motor is a fairly bare motor package No headers, pumps, belts, mounts, cam covers and so on.
As with most retail outlets the RRP is over the top (no one pays that price) but it is their starting price
I did a bit of research before I bought my lot, its better to buy the WHOLE lot as one package as they know what you need (especially WASP) Stuart was very helpful, lets face it without Cobra's,Daytona's and Elfins there wouldn't be as many sold in such a package.
They will all drop in price, look at what you can get a GEN3 for now, thats just technology and supply and demand....

True Stiffy. My preference is to buy it all at once and Stuart's approach that he'll make sure we have what we need to get it started for the quoted price, you can't beat that. I'm just waiting on Tatts division 2 this weekend...

"IF BIDDING GOES OVER $5000 I WILL DELIVER FREE TO MELBOURNE AREAS"

His buy it now price is $4500. I don't think he understands how ebay works.

As soon as someone bids i.e. puts in a bid of $4100 the "Buy it now" option disapears. Bidding could then concevably go beyond $4500 if someone else decides they really want it and out bid the first bidder.

Cheers

It went for $4500, only a single bid.

I spoke to WASP today and they said to be careful as there are reports of a few "noisy" L76 crate motors coming out of Holden.

Holmart have L76's at $4500.00 inc GST at the moment.

http://holmart.com.au/online/category6_1.htm

As Mick (schipps) said, that's some $2000.00 cheaper than we paid not too long back.

Take note of what sambo mentioned just in case. Maybe some agreement on a warranty.

Bluddy cheap price!

if anyone orders these from holden or anywhere make sure u get everything

double and tripple check

i get afew emails asking for stuff which i can get at good prices from holden

like alternators starters wiring pcms etc

part of the engine loom runs thru the nody loom so u have to buy the whole engine bay loom virtually to get the missing wiring section

im pretty sure most people at holden do not know this and if they do the loom is over 1000 bucks

thats y im making the missing loom but apart from the wiring make sure

u get everything even o2 sensors as its pretty common these days to have some parts missing

Sure is cheap.

Seems a lot of LS1 owners are converting to the L76. They are even swopping out the reluctor wheel so they can use their earlier ECU's and using harness extensions etc.

I do believe there are advantages to using the later E38 processor. GM is using the E38 on all their latest engines (LS7 for instance), so there is the ability some time down the track to upgrading a L76 to something bigger without too much heartache.

The tuners are releasing new tools for this processor and it can now be run mafless with incredible improvements in power.

its cheap for most of us but i get afew emails from guys who buy these motors

and realise they dont get the rest

ive priced up from my holden friend parts like air flow starter wiring etc etc and make the engine usuable in a non holden and was another 2 to 3 g i think

they do it this cheap to get u in

cause then u look at other l76 engines on ebay they go for 10 to 15 g
but these u get everything

so if you dont come from the bright end of the stick u automatically buy the

cheaper one hehehhe

but at end of day if u have an l76 and blew it up u would not bother rebuilding it

just buy one of these

Not just commodores either

There are oil pressure issues in retrofitting using th older ecu, but is overcome by swapping the valley cover to a LS2 unit and pluging some return valve in the sump (I think thats right). It is to do with the DOD hardware, which is disabled, but the later ECU must do something in relation to the DOD to avoid this issue?

My understanding is, holden released about 300 of these surplus motors recently, thats why there is a flood of them at the moment. Its not so much abot trying to suck you in, as anyone with half a brain realises a crate motor is a pretty bare unit, just a lot out there right now so cheap. Up to a couple of months ago these were going for $6-6.5k, so that 1500 odd dollars you save goes a long way to getting it running. My big box arrived Thursday

Haha, no Les, joined the 6 litre club. I will be using a T56 - hopefully pick one up in the next week or 2 and its full steam ahead. Lots of things I can do now (exhaust etc) so will worry about getting it going when the time comes (Need to let you guys figure it all out first )

Cheers

OHhhhhh the 6ltr big box arrived.....silly me .

Not much to figure out mate.....specially if you got it from WASP, cuz they do all the vats stuff and a tune.

Sideshow has the looms sorted so hopefully just plug and play.

I'm using the TKO 600 cuz I already had it and besides, the T56 had no hope of fitting my tunnel without a heap of surgery.
