Lewis,

I know the car you are talking about. There we actually at least three Alloy bodied ACMkIII's in Duttons in the 90's. On BRG with classic leather, one red and one dark blue (either off white or Silver stripe). There was also an FIA. They were there around the time of the Dutton sponsored GP Rallye, and had his custom porsche he made for Targa (1992 I think).

After all that, can't tell you where they are today

You could try contacting them directly, Geoff has always been helpful with enquiries from enthusiasts.

Regards

Cameron

Lewis,

What made you go to the expense of bringing this model in from the USA???

And you can register it OK - how does the law apply to your new car. Is it LHD?

Hope to see it at nationals.

OK,

But what makes this model so special over other kit cars over here?

(Not stirring - I have not heard of these)

Hi Stef Your Car Is Perfect. The Way A Cobra Should Be. My Car Is A 1987 Autokraft Mkiv ,was Sold New In The States And Went To Hawaii 9 Years Ago For A Fiftieth Birthday Present, And Lived In A Garage Most Of That Time. It Has 6,000 Miles On It, So It Is Like Brand New. I Will Probably Register It In Western Australia , Where You Can Rego A Car Left Hand Drive. Ship It Back To Melbourne And Take It Out On Special Ocasions. When The Suns Out.

these cars were made under licence from ford (part owner) and AC cars on the original tooling.

This thread goes into a little history on the Mk IV. They have a great rep.

Lewis, I am somewhat confused! You have posted in the ads section that you seek an AutoKraft any condition and age. Why? Spare parts?? Please explain.

Lewis

Congratulations on your purchase of #1203.

I think the red AC you mention is in a museum in WA. Glenn Coad or Jeff Dutton can assist there - previously indicated.

There is a red AC in Melbourne also.

Congratulations, youve got a fantastic car. Im probably not telling you anything new, but not only were the Autocraft cars made with the original tooling as mentioned before, but the owner of Autocraft Brian Ingliss was obsessed with the quality of his cars. Apparently the cars he produced were of an incredible standard.

Regards.

There seems to be some doubt if an original wooden 427 body buck was ever owned by Brian. He definitely had 289 & FIA bucks, but it seems he might never have been able to get an original 427 one. One thing is certain, is that not all the original tooling was still in existance, so a lot of it was remanufactured. Just what I have read/heard. Not that it makes much difference to me either way.

But I'm not taking anything away from the Autokraft's, they are a great car in their own right.

If you are after a premium aluminium Cobra replica that is refined and easy to live with, then the Autokraft is a great choice. But it's still a replica/recreation.

If you are after a premium aluminium Cobra replica that is raw and aggressive as the originals were, then something like a Kirkham is a good way to go.

Just my 2 cents worth.
