Default Disappointment

Today was the day that I was to take the Cobra to Qld Transport for it final inspection and registration. It was raining, so I was working out how I could cover the the interior up when I recieved a phone call from Qld transport informing me that they were canceling all inspections today due to a breakin at their office overnight. Today's booking was made 6 weeks ago and when they told me the earliest they could book me in for the inspection would be 5 weeks away I was not that happy. I asked If there were any earlier appointments at at inspection stations I was told this was the best they could do. I was told to phone the central booking area daily to try for a cancellation.
The wait now continues. At least the weather will be warmer in October.

That's a bugger Warren.

Yeah, give that booking number a call daily for cancellations. Lets hope you snag a spot soon. A big inconvenience as you have to be ready to take it at the drop of a hat. We couldn't do that, so had to wait the required time, which was about 2 months from memory.

What's wrong with these people, don't they want your money? I reckon you'd get a liver transplant sooner than that!

There was a cancellation at Zillmere on Monday, but due the breakin at Ipswich they couldn't guarantee the paperwork paperwork could be found and sent there in time.

Warren, when we arrived for our inspection the paperwork was not there. It was sent to another depot by mistake. They tried to defer our inspection, but lets just say we were persistant.

That's the public service for you. They don't pay much and they don't expect much in return.

Only in the Public service does their problem become yours. In the private sector if a ,similiar thing happened they would roster overtime or extra people on to catch up.

The sooner this government department is outsourced the bloody better.

OOOh Bernie,
If the RTA is privatised do you think they would entertain ICVs or Hotrods ? That's a scary thought.

They would embrace them as a business opportunity and a segment that is under serviced, rather than a nuisance.

LITIGATION....that's what NSW RTA is scared of. Apparently someone built a hotrod, the engineer approved it & the RTA passed it. Someone crashed and his pregnant wife lost the baby. He sued the engineer. Who sued the RTA. The RTA found a "sacrificial lamb" and now are terrified of anything out of the ordinary.
Another twist to the story. In their wisdom during the "downsizing days" they re-assigned inspectors to other positions and deemed garage owners to be authorised inspectors. This was a bonus to me as they don't know all the rules. When they ring the RTA to ask for further info they get abused by the "redundant" inspectors. So they are hesitant to contact them and ask for advise. A mustang that I built for a cousin was passed with monster wheels on it because the RTA "inspectors" abused the garage bloke. My Cobra received the same deal on blue slip inspection ( thats the prerequisite for rego). I had no windscreen and no roll bar and the garage bloke said "no way to register" when he rang the RTA "inspector" I could hear the blue language from four feet away and I'm deaf. My car was passed.
