Halibrand Wheels
Is there a consensus on "Halibrand" looking wheels.
I will be looking to buy rims soon, but I'm not sure where to scource them or what sort of value for money I am likely to get. I'd be interested to hear where people sourced them and what the damage was. I'm still undecided between 1. Simmons B45 or similar (Bathurst Globe look) 2. Torque Thrust of some sort 3. Check out Vintage Wheels. They will also fit rubber at a better price than you'll get in Australia. Dollar is high: time to buy!

Just got my rims from Vintage Wheels :3DSMILE: pic in my gallery if some one knows how to post them:confused: Very good quality easy to deal with as well. Richard is right with the Aussie dollars high it's time too buy.

Vintage centre knock-offs are the way to go. I got 9" front and 11" rear polished plus adaptors and they cost me $AUS2,697 plus $AUS302.49 GST direct from Vintage in the States.
Then I brought 2 x 315/35ZR-17 Sumitomos HTRZ for the rear and 2 x 255/45ZR-17 HTRZII for the rear direct from Tyre Rack in Indiana. They cost me $AUS710.05 which included $US191 freight, delivered to my door within 8 days. This was when our dollar was around 85c U.S. They are magnificent. I can't wait for my build to be finished so I can put them on. Baz |

Beaty in the eye of the beholder etc and all that crap, but it is what you like that counts. For me it's halibrands and I have to say Baz's rims look great. I'm a way off actually getting real rims but I'm stuck between knock offs and normal stud type rims. I'll take my time once I'm cruising to look at a lot of cars and probably decide that way, unless there is an advantage to knock offs over studs. Cheers |
Dragway in Melb and Bris seem to do a good job too, and at very reasonable price. See: http://www.dragway.com.au/s_5.asp and DB51. They can also be done with black (or any colour) centres.

I persume your Harrison has the 9" rear and not the Skyline diff. I looked at Vintage wheels and the rear wheel backspace would not work for me with the independant rear. They are very nice wheels. The Australian Dragway wheels I have seen have quite pronounced milling marks in the centre which for the price I find rather interesting. I have a quote from PS Engineering (LA California) for a set of Halibrands (used on original superformance cars) around US $1800 depending on final requirements. Also a quote for some Foose Ascot wheels (2piece custom ) at US $2100. Just got to go Innie meanie minnie moe to make my mind up. Bruce |
When selecting wheels for a Harrison with a Skyline rear, the brake caliper sticks out past the face of the hub. This makes selection for wheels for the rear not that straightforward.

Interesting Warren. Then what does one select? The Dragway has a new system I am told that is quite different and produces better results. They seem to fit well on the Skyline rear.

There will be plenty of wheels that fit. There are Dragway halibrands fitted to harrisons with skyline suspension. The Millaz wheels I have had to have a spacer cast into them to clear the brake caliper. All I was trying to say in my previous posting is be aware that any wheel with the correct offset and PCD might not fit due the the caliper. Warren |
Ozwheels 3 piece Halibrand style wheels. These are made just outside Sydney and are about $680 each in whatever size and offset you want.

You will find it will be heaps cheaper to get them from the states tyres in particular. I got Bonspeeds billets for 420 us each made to my specs. I had a real hard time picking rims!! But the tyres will be over half price from the states. Especially if you want to run 295 or bigger on the rear.

I bought Vintage Halibrand knock-off Wheels: 15x7.5" & 15x9.5" 4" backspace. Just watch the backspace as it's a killer for most Oz Cobra replicas. 17" Vintage wheels have slightly better offsets.
I grabbed some Yokohama AVID S/T 245/60/15 & 295/50/15 tyres from Tire Rack in the US. Great value. So many choices when it comes to tyres. |
Thanks Warren. Dragway tell me that the 'swirl" marks that they leave from their milling process are left deliberately as most of their customers like it that way.(?!) They can polish them off, lightly sandblast them away and/or paint over the wheel centre. Still looking at those ones from the US (above) however!
