LS1 Engine Oils
Ok Darksiders What oil are you using. I was sold into some Penrite sn5 for my LS1 engine. I now read on the LS1 Forum synthetic oil seems to equal sludge and ring sealing issues. Do I dump the oil and put something else in. My engine is brand new. |

I am going to use Royal Purple, it is reccomended by a lot of the LS1 tuners down here.

Royal Purple seems to be relatively easy to get as well. I've seen it at Autobahn stores.
And I just love the name.

My tuner recommended Castrol 25-50. So far so good.

COME Racing built my new LS1-383 and I asked them about oil type and he said to use Penrite HPR30 oil especially for the track and with higher ambient temps
like at Winton sometimes. |

For what it is worth, I use Penrite HPR30.
All 9 ltrs per oil change.

I think Purple Royal is on the cards for my first oil change. Surely I will not wreck the engine with with 1 dose of Penrite.

Bruce, not sure where you have sourced your engine from. But if it's 2nd hand and sitting for a while. That new oil you've put in, I would be changing it out after the engine has been brought up to temp a few times. You could have a bit of a build up of contaminents in there. Could be cheap insurance.
