Seats My Aching back

Ok
After Quite a few Ks this weekend i am in need of some seats with better support.
Currently have Lowback F Glass with some padding
Does anyone have any bright ideas, I would like to stay with a seat that looks similar to the original but with better support

RMC used to make their own seats

don't know if they still do but might be worth a try

Trev if you're at all on the tall side you'll have to experiment a bit.
Don't try to slide forward and down to get your head out of the windflow, that only reduces the amount of support for your lumbar back.
Push your bum back and sit up tall. (This is also a well known practice to maintain alertness while driving, so you're doing two good things, staying alert and being kind to your lower back.)

You'll have to jam your cap on tighter but.....that's part of the price you have to pay. You're not in a luxo barge now.
Then buy an el cheapo KMart cushion and place it behind the lumbar area of your lower back, not your bum. You might have to modify it until it feels comfortable and when that happy day arrives, cover it to suit your upholstery and velcro it in place. Done! Doesn't matter what it looks like, it has to be supportive for you. You might consider buying an offcut from an upholstery shop if you need firmer rubber, and cut it to the same size and shape.

There's an old biker's saying "You're not in the carriage now, you're up on the horse!" Same goes for Cobras although not to the same extent. They'll never be super comfortable, they're loud, they're not politically correct, greenies hate "em, they're a throwback to better happier times.........and that's why we love them!!!

Trev, my brother and I did many 1000k+ trips in our old Cobra with similiar style buckets to yours and after each leg we would get progressively more and more sore.

With the next Cobra we used MX5 seats, even with stiffer suspension, lower profile tyres etc, so much less compliance, on similiar trips we ended each day with no stiffness at all. Modern seats are so much more comfortable, not quite the same look though.

You might be able to improve your existing seats. What are you suffering from - back pain, numb bum, soar legs etc. You might be able to change the shape/postion of the seat to improve things.

Yeah, that grin will return each time you get into your Cobra.

Just for reference, I have these seats:



they are standard in these cars, but do have the traditional look (headrest excluded). I have done 1000+ K days and have not suffered from soreness. But I'm not tall either.

Not all greenies hate 'em 750hp!

I've had mine for a couple of months now and the loving it gets from all walks of life is amazing.

A good mate of mine is an environmental consultant and has lots of friends who could be described as greenies. Anyway, I showed up to a party of his recently and there was a big group of them on his front balcony. Angry lynch mob??? No way. They all came down for a look and a photo of it or in it. Some even wanted to give the engine a bit of a rev.

I went thrue the same as you, and the fix was simple.I bought a high back seat from sube motersports. com, for about 280.00 a piece, then tore them down, and fabricated them to my body and the designe of the car, I gave it more of a reclined look, which gave me way more room , not so much of your body being in the l position i call it with the other style seats and they look very nice as well, then befor you re cover the seat put the heated seat elements inside, then cover, and your done. I ;owered the height of te seat as well I thought they were too high, but you can make that choice.

Be sure to get steel framed seats as they will give you the support you need. They usually carry a bladder bottom and higher end foam, they are not cheap however they are worth the cost!

Going by cargo ship can be very inexpensive.

I went from a standard Cobra seat to a vintage style comp seat. It is much more comfortable even though it has a thinner pad. The seat conforms to your backside.



Besides that I thought you Aussies were tough. What is the world coming to when an Aussie complains his butt hurts from a little car ride?
