King Cobra/DE on ebay

Hi All

Still looking around for my Cob and have short listed a partially finished Harrison for around $20k.

A King Cobra has recently been listed on ebay for $27K (I haven't been able to work out how to copy the link to here, a search for 'ac cobra' will find it though)

Just wondering if any of you kind people would throw in your 2 bobs' worth.

I've done some homework talking to Dave King who only delivered the roller a few months ago. He tells me that the chassis has not been painted/powdercoated (the seller wanted to save a few $) and also doors haven't been cut out as yet although he has offered to come to my place and do this for me. So I'll need to disassemble the car and powdercoat the chassis plus glass up the door sills.

Looks from the sellers description that most of the parts needed for completion are there.

What do you 'reccon about his $33k spend to date?

Thanks

Is this the one?

You will have difficulty registering it in NSW with that motor

Plums 04-05-2008 01:16 AM

I would say he could have definitely spent $33K to date....

byroncobra 04-05-2008 04:50 AM

I can register the car in Qld (thank goodness)
The local Engineer, Ray Cross, doesn't want to know about complying ANY kitcar in NSW.

Deja Vu all over again?

Didn't we already have this conversation....

do you have a thing for the DE types

Personally, although 33k may be what he's spent - and he does have some nice bits, but - as per the last thread - if its so easy to finish.... (& I think you can find better value out there).

This (unregistered) car was recently the subject of a thread where the owner was asking $32.5k

However, as always it up to you - it might be a once in a life time bargain.

If you want a nice Cobra "done" I am selling my for 35,000. It is a FFR and it is advertised on this site under the for sale section. It is the British racing green one from Edgewater, fl. Even though it is a FFR, it was pro built car and big block motor with all the good stuff.

Tenrocca 04-06-2008 07:00 AM

Getting it to an registered in Oz is the problem Pander - otherwise every second kirkham coming off the line would make its way down here Id reckon.

:)

Would you believe this is a different car to the post that you refer to.
One from Trading Post and this one on ebay.
I dont have a thing about DE's, just that both these partially completed cars are the only 2 Cobras to surface for sale in the last month that I know of. :)
Anyway, thanks for the car you illustrate here at $32.5, it sure adds more food for thought.
I spent Sunday at Morgan Park watching the guys (and girls) from Qld Club having a ball on the track..........it was a great day, helping me compare the predominately Harrisons and DRBs.
If nothing else it convinced me that going with a known local manufacturer probably makes sense, so much so that I scratched heading off to Sunshine Coast to look at the King Cobra and instead headed down to Gosford to check out a partially built Harrison.
If anyone else here know of any part built cars please let me know.
I think its time to bite the bullett!!

Sorry Byroncobra, I sealed the deal on Dru's cobra today.

I spoke to George last week, seemed a nice guy. Was considering it until I heard about Dru's car.

Geoff

Thought that you may have been there as I noticed another guy wandering around asking lots of questions, as I was, and I didn't get to say gday to him.

Anyway, I'm really happy with the Cob from George, he's a really nice fella, as you said and he's finishing off a few things before he brings the car up to me in a few weeks. He mentioned to me that you had contacted him and that he wanted me to have first dig as I'd been trying to get down to Gosford to see the car for a while.

Nothing like the threat of another buyer to halt my procrastination!:)

I hope that your car works out well for you too. At what stage is the build?

I'm looking forward to going shopping for a donk.........decisions, decisions.

Greg

Krait 04-08-2008 09:37 PM

Greg,

I'm glad that it all worked out in the end...for both of us.

From what George told me and the photos I think the cars are at similar stages. Mine has a number of cardboard boxes associated with it that I haven't gone through. It will have to go back to Warwick for a few changes, it was setup up for a 302 but I want to run a LS series engine.

Am having a new shed erected so it can't come home yet anyway.

Cheers

Geoff

Congrats Greg & Geoff, you certainly won't regret the decision to go with a Harrison. Warwick is a great bloke and provides great service and support. I've actaully bought 2 x cobra kits off Warwick over the years.

The Harrison is a very well sorted and setup Cobra. I built a Harrison with my brother, which he bought off me and drives/races to this very day.

Greg's will actually be the same front end/arm design as ours.

My brother has won 3 x National Cobra Titles with the Harrison Cobra.

Now the fun begins. :D

Krait 04-09-2008 12:39 AM

Thanks for the encouragement Craig.

It's been a long time since I was involved in motorsport/car club and am really looking forward to getting back into it.

This forum has been a very useful source of information.

Cheers

Geoff

Ditto Craig

Look forward to meeting you & more of the QLD crew at Sanctuary Cove.

cheers
