If pushed the right way these sort of heavy handed laws could swing election results. I would imagine that all car enthusiasts would see these laws as a threat to their hobby regardless of how they drove. Add the number of enthusiats up in the country and I reckon there would be a fair percentage of the voting populace.

Consider the lagal age to vote is 18 and that's the same age you can obtain your licence so it goes that virtually all your car owninging enthusiasts are voters. With the right organisation backing the car enthusiasts significant political pressure could be applied to the government. How many people turn up to the Sumernats each year, how many people read Street Machine or any number of motoring publications. That's hundreds of thousands of people.

I think if enough peoples cars get confiscated then there is going to be a backlash.
