The perfect garage
Hi All,
I have just purchased a new house, well really just a block of land with living quarters actually.
The purchase was to mainly set up the garage from HELL and a small house to live in.
I need ideas/designs. I have a picture in my head of what I want but I am sure there are much better brains out there with idea's I havent thought of or seen.
What I want, as much usable space as possible (multiple 2 and 4 post hoists) maybe even a portable 4 poster for when the weather's fine and for cleaning underbody.
The block is 17.5 Meters wide and 50.5 Meters long. I invisage (based on council regs) to put a 14 Meter x 6 Meter high and 7 Meters deep. I would like a granny flat/bedroom/guest room/B & D Room as well. Its good to have a shower/fridge/Plasma close by.
So what I need is ideas, designs, layout from people that have done it before, seen one done or always dreamed of such a garage.
Keep the idea's coming....

Stiffy
I have seen a site - Thread - here with super garages. Try a search.
I would consider doing a warehouse front stryle of building.

I have the same dreams, I plan to fit an American barn style shed as an extension to my current shed.
The upper level would have a messanin level that would be approx half the length of the shed for TV, couch, fridge and small kitchenette.
There would be a verandah that extends out from the front of this.
Then I could install a hoist that raises up through the centre where there is no messanin.
My shed would be approx 12 metres wide, approx 15 metres long with a minimum height on the lower levels of approx 3 - 4 metres.
This way there is bench space along the sides, with room for lathe and milling bench, would also like to have an english wheel and folder.
Then on the opposite side there is room for cars to be angle parked and worked on.
All just a dream at the moment but until 5 days ago I was still dreaming of driving my Cobra.
But to save costs it would be far cheaper to build a flat sided tall shed and just put a second level in one of the corners.

Do it right Stiffy. Get a decent architect (you might go through a few) and tell 'em what you want. Don't get a builder to do the design.

Here is my mates shed (yes I have shed envy every time I go there)..
It is 18m x 12m x tall, it has a standard roller door at each end, (of which one opens to a ute height dock), 2 chain operated roller doors (pretty wide ones too), mezanine, etc. etc. Half of the shed is timber flooring, while the other half is concrete (12m x 9m of each).
If he would just throw a hoist and a Dyno in there, I reckon I'd be in heaven...
Out of interest, the gold car in the picture is a Ford Lincoln Continental Town car (460 big block), in excellent original condition with just over 100k on the clock... very nice!!!

Things for sure.
There is a fews things to help you with fact
we all die.
you can not have too much power.
you can not have too big a shed.
Grass is horses and golf cources.
So concrete the whole yard put up some posts in each corner and fill in the gaps with roller doors ,windows and walls.
oh i nearly forgot a big fridge and a dunny.( no Grass to Pi55 on)
I think i may have to get rid of the dog as he don't like to S#!t on concrete.
And one other eco tip is you don't have to mow the grass which will give you carbon credits for the gas burning monsters in the shed.

Hi Stiffy,
The best picture of a garage I have ever seen, is one called 'COBRA HEAVEN',
search for it on the net.

Here's one I have in Georgia with 7600 sq ft under roof, some day I plan to fill it up.. cost was less than $10 a sq ft ==$75000 built with concrete, etc in 2006
you would need a acre or so of land to build it on.

I recently purchased a knockover and I am close to finishing the house build.
My block is almost same as yours at 18m x 43m. My garage is 8m x 12m and was the first thing I had down on paper before the house design. The only reason I am building a new house is because I wanted a real garage (dont tell Maree that)
I designed it myself and had a draftsman draft it and submit to council etc. You'll save heaps this way. Happy to show you thru it or the design if you like sometime.

Bernie,
I remember seeing that same garage and could not find it.
It was the best I've seen. I'll try and post mine.
These just show half of the entire shop. the other side is the mechanical area with lift and compressor. No photos yet.

Looks Great
BT SNAKE,
Now you are talking
I should clarify for those that do not know me, I dont build....
Its not my strenght, so some would call me a cheque writer I am getting better BUT its not worth the pain and suffering on the poor vehicle..
Therefore my Garage is mainly for storage, cleaning, tinkering and a place for men to drink beer and look at nice car related things,,
