Brackets and loom were all home made. The leads are Magnacor and were custom made to lengths I supplied.
Sorry for the Hi-Jack.

My reasoning was similar to Mikes, along with the fact that where I worked I could source alot of parts and info as needed.
And as Mike, PhilM (and most likely 95% of people in here) has done, build it how you want, get it through rego with the ugly intake (be that GM or Ford) then modify to suit later.

Injected 302W compliant?
I'm surprised that (in Victoria??) that the injected 302W is still compliant. 2 years ago when I was deciding my engine I was talked out of the injected setup and so went for an LPG 302W instead, because the injected 302W no longer being compliant.
Maybe thats just W.A. rules.???

The injected 5L W is actually now still compliant to end 2008 here in Vic anyway.
Someone re-read the rules properly that said complaint to 2008.... 31 december 2008 is still in time!!
Cheers

That's a very nicely presented engine there Spook. Looking forward to seeing it at the nationals.

Who cares what motor goes in it, its a bloody awesome Cobra , just stick a motor in it and enjoy the drive.
Ford or Chev they both do the same thing.
If it didnt come from Carroll Shelby it's not an "original" so whats all the fuss about.
JUST ENJOY IT !!!!
Buy the way I have a Chev and its #ucking AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't argue with that. Both Chev or Ford will give you a grin from ear to ear.
Spookypt, just love the look of your 1UZFE. Man does it look great.

I think Spooky will be bringing the NEW race car. I saw it the other day and the HP output scares the hell out of me.

I think I have decided! This has been fantastically helpful and full of most valuable information - as well as personal support. Bit like deciding on the characteristics of a genetically engineered infant - about the only kind I could manage these days! (no comments please Warren!)
My head says the Chevy engine - it is brilliant - but the emotional side says go the 302! I seem to have gleaned from the discussion that this engine may only be compliant until the end of 2008?
Given the nature of the use of the Cobra that I have planned, I am going to call Warwick tomorrow and check out the engine mounts issue and then if that is no major drama - order a US-sourced EFI engine. I want to thank every one for their assistance with this. Great thread that I am sure may help others in the future.

Merv, the 2008 date is for VIC. The also need to find a ADR 79/00 compliant engine even for that date.
In QLD there are no plans to move forward from the older ADR 37/01 emissions. So in QLD we have relatively lots of engine choices.
Well I suppose you've got to follow your heart. Don't worry your head will forgive you the first time you push the loud pedal on that 302w.

Thanks Craig. Still depends on what I can find out from Warwick. I did say to him earlier that I wanted the L76 engine mounts and the frame is established accordingly. Not sure how much modification is needed and not keen to move the car too much.

You could get an LS7, or LS9 heaps of power, pass emissions and the LS7 is a 427!

I rang Warwick first thing this morning, told him to tell Merv it would be to much trouble to change and just stick with the L76.
We dont want the Ford guys thinking people could be converting back to those old boat anchors again.
Besides I think we owe it to our children to look after the planet if we can, go the greenies.

Chase more power and you should set up an acount with the underwear department of your local target store.
For a more track focused car you could probably use more power but in all honesty I think the money would be better spent on getting the handling and brakes sorted. As an example John White at the last few Cobra Nationals was kicking everyones butt with a stock Lexus V8 in a very well set up chassis.

Best bit of advice yet said and something I have been verbal about in the past. A genuine 400rwhp in one of these things can scare the living daylights from most folks.
With less than excellent suspension, setup, and brakes these things will dance sideways in a heartbeat and as good a driver we think we are they will still catch you out.
Quite embarrassing when the taillights your looking at are your own.
