Hi my name is Alan. I've been looking at this forum now for well over 2 years and have decided its time to register and introduce myself.

I live in the South East suburbs of Melbourne and I'm approx 4 weeks away from picking up my 08 chassis and body kit from Classic Revival.

I am currently busily sourcing parts. Have already purchased an L76 motor (I consider this should induct me to the dark side), T56 gearbox, steering rack, front knuckles and hubs, Brembo 4 spot callipers (front), 343 X 32 diameter discs, wheels and tyres (17 x 9 & 17 x 10 & 1/2) in transit from the States and a whole host of other little bits and pieces.

I have already found this site extremely helpful in my decision of which kit to buy. I looked at most kits available in Australia and decided that the Classic Revival best fitted my plans for club motor sport and Cobra Club events.

I am currently finding it very hard to source a VE rear sub assembly (which the classic revival use) from any wreckers. Have priced brand new, but this will blow the budget. So trying to find a 3.7 diff ratio that comes out of a HSV manual car, along with all the lower control arms, knuckles and hubs. No luck yet, but would appreciate any tip-offs or sightings of these.

I am also trying to find information on the T56 shifter relocation. I know Aussie Mike had posted a "How to Guide" on this mod, but when I searched the forum, a lot of the text seems to be missing in the post.

I plan on a 2 to 3 year build process and will try to keep most of the fabrication in house as I have nearly got my garage set up as I want it.
A recent extension to garage for road cars and a separate workshop area with lathe, drill press AC/DC tig welder, and big work bench. Need to purchase beer fridge for the workshop area!

I am looking forward to becoming part of this group and culture and only hope that maybe one day I might be able to help out someone as much as this forum has already helped me.

Hi Alan, welcome and good luck with the build. Is your car the first to use the new suspension setup? It would be great to see photos of your build as you go along since you have the chassis.

G'day...Alan and welcome to the Zoo...as you no doubt have seen there are some really great people on here and at the Victorian Club...Check out the aussie LS1 Forum for the parts your after...always plenty of gear available or people willing to wreck if they know they can move salvagable parts.(legit of course!!!!)

G'day Alan,

Your chassis must be the one (or two) in front of mine.

Mines' due late July. I cheated though, I am getting a rolling chassis with suspension and brakes already done. These are the bits I wanted to make sure someone who knows what they are doing get right.

I am in eastern Melb suburbs so we arent far away form each other I'd say.

I'd really like to chat to you more about your wheel/tyre choice for the 2008 chassis.

In the CR manual Ian gives some valuable sizing information but the wheel suppliers seem to define backspace differently. i.e. some use the overall width rather than where the tire meets the rim

Are you able to PM me your wheel sizes?

Mando - Not sure whether it is the first classic revival to use the new suspension set up, but could be close to it? I will post photos of my build as I go along.

Paul (ozcobra) - Thanks for the offer to post a wanted ad on the LS1 Forum, but I have just managed to source a VE sub assembly for a bargain price of $650. And, NO, it's not stolen! It came from a damaged police car.

Gregg (gjkrv8) - I sent you a PM with my contact details. It would be great to hear from you. My wheel sizes are 17 x 9 (front) with a 24mm back space. The rears are 17 x 10.5 with a 20mm back space. I have sourced tyres as well from the States as they are heaps cheaper.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your PM to me, I did reply with my mobile no.

I'd really like to chat to you about wheel sizes as the information supplied by CR is confusing me as I cant find the offsets specified by CR. i.e. CR specify 8" with 38mm offset for the front and 10" with 25mm offset for rear. I do notice that CR's backspace measurement is quoted from where the tyre bead is rather than the outside rim etc. It seems most people quote backspace from out lip rather than where tyre hits rim. I'll give you a call to discuss your findings.
